Tips for Making the Best Crispy Breaded Air Fryer Chicken Wings

  • Make sure there’s a little space between each wing in the air fryer so the hot air can properly circulate. This ensures that the breading will get fully crispy on all sides!
  • Spray the wings with an EVO Oil Sprayer to crisp up the breading halfway through cooking. This will also get rid of any white residue from the flour
  • After 7 or 8 minutes, use tongs to carefully flip the wings to ensure the breaded wings in the air fryer cook evenly.
  • An Instant Read Thermometer is the best way to tell when your wings are fully cooked. You want the thermometer to read 165 degrees F when placed in the thickest part of the biggest wing.

Do you add flour to chicken in air fryer?

The secret to making air fried chicken that tastes just as good as frying is to marinate the chicken with buttermilk and spices and to bread it with a mixture of flour and corn starch. The 2nd must is to generously spray it with cooking spray to ensure all the flour is coated with oil.

What makes wings crispy in an air fryer?

Another tip to make crispy wings in the air fryer is to add a little baking powder to the mixture. Baking powder is what helps make crispy skin. You're going to love this air fryer chicken wings recipe so much you'll never want to have them any other way again.

How do you get flour to stick to wings?

EGGS/MILK/HOT SAUCE: Whisk these two together to make a “wash”. This is what you want to dredge the seasoned wings in before you dip them in the flour. This gives the flour something to stick to.

Is it better to fry wings in flour or cornstarch?

In many fried food recipes, the typical ratio is 50-50 flour to cornstarch. When grilling though, I've found just using cornstarch to be best. The result is a great golden color and super crunchy wings. Cornstarch is almost entirely starch - where-as flour contains gluten.
