What does the number of facebook friends say about you

Keep anon or delete as this is embarassing and I know people on here.
Basically, I don't have a facebook acc but want one as I'm at uni. It's just that I only want to add people I talk to regularly, this equates to about 15 people. Will this seem strange to those added? Also let say if I find a new girl I like and add her on facebook, won't she be freaked out I have like 15 friends?
Has anyone known people to do this?

No, it doesn't matter. Your friends will know why you have few people on there. If the girl cares then she's a bit crap and not worth the effort.

you can hide your friends anyway if it bugs you so much...........

It doesn't matter. Your friends that you have on your facebook won't care and if you're worried about what other people think, you can hide who your friends are from people that you're not friends with.

Make a status saying you just joined facebook.

Having a number like 15 means it's so low that it's obvious you've done it purposefully. Somewhere nearer to 100, it looks slightly worse, as if they care enough about Facebook to add/accept not-so-close people yet don't have too many acquaintances. 100-300 is low/normal. 300-600 is high end of normal. 600-1000 is sociable/clearly use Facebook a lot. Over 1000 is very popular or adds almost everyone they encounter. Over 2000 means Facebook *****/random adds etc. Just my view.

i got a friend who got 897 friends on facebook, i highly doubt she knows every single one of them, i only got 120 friends myself who i all know from Sixth form and families and University, facebook is about socialising with friends, it doesn't matter how many you got

i'm puzzled, why i got negged for this?

Whenever a random person from school adds me, I usually ignore it. I used to accept, but they were obviously just trying to increase their friends list. I only add people who are actually my

Can you not find something proper to worry about? I've got about 300 "friends" but only 10-15 of them I have any real contact with. No-one has that many actual friends, its impossible, they'll just assume you've only added close friends. Some people are pansy ****.

My best friend had about 350 until she went on a deleting spree and was left with only 50! But if people judge you on the number of your Facebook friends,they aren't really worth bothering with.

Having 15 friends > having 1000 'friends'

I have 46 friends on there or something like that, i couldn't really give a turd.

I have 76 friends, I should probably delete about 40 of those to be honest. I wouldn't think anything of it.

So long as you're not that person who thinks that everyone has only a few on there, and so comments on EVERYTHING, then no, not strange.

I resiliently signed up the other day and I'm the same as you. I've held back on signing up as I hate the whole Facebook-culture that society currently has, but I've created a page in order to communicate with people at uni/close friends. Although it may seem socially unacceptable to only add your real friends there isn't really any value in pretending you speak to hundreds of people on a regular basis.

If in doubt, change your settings to prevent anyone seeing your friends list

Facebook was created so that people at university (Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard) could communicate with other people regarding classes, dates, events and other sh*t. If you have 15 close friends you want to talk to on there that's not a problem, you're using facebook well. And it's your facebook account anyway, you can do what you like. It's only the "prestige" with having 2,000+ friends that people then think that having a very small amount of friends is strange, two opposite ends of the spectrum. Personally, I would rather have a small amount of friends that I frequently talk to rather than have a stupid amount and never speak to.

Therefore, it won't be strange as you speak to them a lot and will not be creepy. But I guarentee you'll have more than 15 in a few months whilst at university, because of all the liaisons you'll have.
