But seriously though, as I scour the web for some background info during my brief prep for writing this post, I am dumbfounded by two revelations: 2) This particular product was available at Trader Joe's at least A DECADE AGO. See: this blogspot food review. In cases like this, it's anybody's guess as to whether this product was discontinued and then re-released, or whether it's been available all these years, somehow eluding our sights there in the frozen aisle. This recent tweet made me assume it was a new product. If it has been there all these years, quite frankly I'm shocked that we didn't hear more about it, because it's pretty fantastic. In some ways, the slight nuttiness of the soy milk blends with the chocolate and cherry flavors even better than traditional dairy milk does. I'm eager to try B&J's almond milk-based version now, as that might work even better still. But as it stands, I'd hold this Soy Creamy flavor in higher esteem than the vanilla flavor we tried a while back. There are plenty of chocolate chips, and the cherries are pretty awesome. They're basically just sugared cherries—as sweet as maraschino cherries, but without the formaldehyde and radioactive Red 40. Plenty of 'em, too. The overall flavor is sweet, but not too sweet, with very little aftertaste. Sonia is a little under the weather right now and admittedly can't taste very much. She did like the bit of flavor she could detect, and of course she enjoyed the texture. Four stars from her. As someone who generally prefers dairy milk over soy milk, I think this product is worth 4.5, especially if you're lactose-intolerant or vegan. Bottom line: 8.5 out of 10. © Maple Media LLC, 2022 All rights reserved by Maple Media.
No other grocery store has been able to create the cult-like fanbase that Trader Joe's has amassed. Its shoppers are known for driving to far-flung TJ's locations—and waiting in lines equally as long—to stock up on much-loved items like Cauliflower Gnocchi, Pickled Beets, Frozen Gyoza, Everything But the Bagel Seasoning, and even Apple Cider Drinking Vinegar (don't knock it until you've tried it). And why not? Everyone's got their own can't-live-without Trader Joe's product. Occasionally, however, something devastating happens: TJ's stops selling something we've become addicted to. You drove all that way with sweaty palms and shaky hands—and it's gone. Here, we honor the items that have served us well. May they rest in peace. Matcha Joe-Joe'sOreos couldn't come close to these green tea-flavored sandwich cookies. Carrot SpiralsBetter get back on the zoodle train, because these little frozen carrot noodles are gone for good. Joe's Dark Coffee SquaresNever underestimate the power of TJ's to make chocolate-anything impossibly addictive. These barely-sweet mocha squares had a powerful kick of 100 percent arabica coffee, so it felt OK to enjoy one or five at breakfast. Organic Raw Blue Agave SweetenerTrust us, our margaritas have suffered. Sriracha Ranch DressingThe only thing more cult-y than ranch dressing was Sriracha. Sigh. Blue Cheese MustardEven non-mustard fans relished this salty-cheesy concoction. It was perfect on everything from sandwiches and salmon to roasted chicken and salad. Here's hoping it's just hibernating for the season. Cinnamon Crumb Coffee CakeThis was discontinued several years ago, but TJ's brought it back in 2019. Sadly, it has since disappeared again. Fingers crossed it will be back in time for the holidays. Salted Caramel GelatoWe're as confused as you are. This stuff was sweet, creamy, and perfect for pairing with their wafer cookies. Banana WafflesWe've fallen for their traditional waffles, pumpkin waffles, gluten-free, Belgian waffles, and blueberry waffles. But none could replace their gluten-free banana waffles. Tofu Edamame NuggetsThere was so much commotion when these vegan nuggets (made from soybeans, carrots, and tofu) disappeared that fans actually created a Change.org petition to bring them back. Sadly, they were unsuccessful. Wasabi MayonnaiseIt almost made the Tofu Edamame Nugget farewell easier, since this was their ideal dipping sauce. Organic Woodfired Sicilian Style PizzaThis frozen pie—topped with roasted red peppers, provolone, and mozzarella balls—was kid-friendly and took zero effort to cook. Toasted Coconut Pancake MixFirst the banana waffles, now this? Pita Crisps With Cranberries and Pumpkin SeedsThe good news is that Trader Joe's now sells a similar product in cracker form, but they just aren't the same. We have high hopes that these will make a debut in the fall once again. Honey Butter Potato ChipsSay what you want about the concept—these chips were outrageously delicious. They were the perfect sweet-salty-sour trifecta, almost as if kettle corn and sour cream and onion chips had a baby (but better). Did Trader Joe's discontinued soy creamy?Interestingly, sales of Soy Creamy Cherry Chocolate Chip started declining around the end of 2018, so we made the difficult decision to stop producing it.
