ADMISSION. Grounds are free. House tours and grounds tours are $10 for adults; $6 for SC Seniors; $5 for children ages 6-15; children age 5 and under are free.

Did Rose Hill Plantation have slaves?

Rose Hill was a working plantation of about 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) where enslaved laborers grew cotton, corn, and oats. (There were approximately 20 slaves in 1820, 82 in 1840, and 178 in 1860). After slavery was abolished at the end of the Civil War, the plantation was farmed by tenant farmers and sharecroppers.

Who owns Rose Hill Plantation?

In 1996, the Middleton White Foundation purchased the house and the surrounding 12.5 acres and began a new era of restoration on the house as a private home. Today the house is the private residence of Mr. and Mrs.
