Places to go at night near me

Being a nation of foodies, we do have an endless list of places to visit, regardless of cuisine, location, and time of day. At work, in school, along the street, it’s inevitable that we’ll walk past someone with food or a drink in their hand. Supper, for me, has always been either a steaming cup of instant noodles or ordering McNuggets at 1am, but here are 20 places for you to hit up if your stomach starts growling late at night.

This list has everything you could possibly want— freshly made roti prata, comforting congee, childhood favourite fishball noodles, chocolatey brownies and waffles, good ol’ dim sum, smoky KBBQ, and more. There will be something for everyone, and that’s a promise.

Do you ever have that feeling like you’re not that hungry, but you still feel like eating something anyway? Then Johore Bahru Ye Zhi Mei Handmade Bao is the top choice. Their Prawn Siew Mai offers a quick bite without having to break the bank. It’s an affordable place to indulge a little, especially with a serving of their Char Siew Rice, or Glutinous Chicken Rice.

Ask any Singaporean what Jalan Kayu is famous for and you are likely to hear “Jalan Kayu Roti Prata”. Jalan Kayu has Thasevi and Cafeela which has their fans alike. Cafeela has the upper hand with it being situated next to the public carpark. Do try the Nasi Briyani and Roti John, one of better ones around. Thasevi is otherwise a bit more pricey, but nonetheless still good.

4. Burnt Cones Gelato

Places to go at night near me

Supper for many often involves something sweet, which is why I have to add Burnt Cones Gelato to the list. What better way to end a long day with a heaping scoop of ice cream? Their Premium Single Scoop will set you back S$5, and Doubles will cost you S$9. If you’re satisfying those cravings with a friend, opt to share their Plain Buttermilk Waffle (S$7) and have sweet dreams all night.

5. Superstar K

Places to go at night near me

This is for those who consider supper their dinner part two. I mean, who said you can’t have KBBQ right before bed? Superstar K is the place to go and treat yourself—think Seasoned King Size Beef Rib (S$39.90), Pork Belly Bulgogi (S$19.90), Black Pepper Chicken (S$18.90), Kimchi Stew (S$14) and more. You’ll have to take a full shower once you get home, but hey, we’d do anything for a good meal of smoky, savoury, sinful KBBQ, right? And since you’re there, just add on a Kimchi Pancake (S$22) for me. I’ll live vicariously through you.

Some people are satisfied with just a small bite, but if you’re ravenous at midnight and googling frantically, look no further. Good Bites offers halal-certified fare and is open until 4am. There’s Fat Prawn Burger (S$16.99), Tom Yum Pasta (from S$11.99), and more, to cater to even the pickiest eater. End your late-night feast with a Signature Iced Coffee (from S$8.99) for that sweet caffeine fix, or go for the Mini Milkshake (S$9.99) if you’re already stuffed but still crave the sugar.

7. Fong Seng Fast Food Nasi Lemak

A favourite among NUS students residing in Eusoff Hall (just a minute’s walk away), Fong Seng has decent nasi lemak at relatively affordable prices. For those who drive, just park legally at the NUS carpark and walk over. The LTA wardens are ever ready to pounce on the errant parkers, and you don’t want to lose your appetite because of that.

8. Lola Faye Café

Places to go at night near me

My sugar-dependent self couldn’t just leave you with just one option for a sweet supper. Joining the ranks is Lola Faye Café, another halal-certified eatery that promises sugary gelato, croissants, and more. They have options such as Gelato Croissant (S$9.80), Charcoal Blackout Waffles (S$7), Buttermilk Belgium Waffles (S$6, +S$5 add-on single scoop), and Fudgy Brownies with Gelato (S$10.90). I don’t know about you, but the next time my post-dinner hunger pangs hit me, this place is at the top of my list.

9. Mr Prata

If Jalan Kayu is too inaccessible for you, check out Mr Prata instead. They have five outlets (and growing). Try the Maggi Goreng Prata (Maggi Noodles in a Prata). It’s not the first pairing associated with roti prata, but can we normalise it, please? It’s worth all that extra calories, and isn’t that the hallmark of a good supper session?

10. 126 Dim Sum Wen Dao Shi (搵到食)

Places to go at night near me

If you are looking for an authentic retro Hong Kong dim sum dining experience, 126 is the place to go. The vibe of the sleaze from the neighbouring units at their Geylang outlet (open 24 hours daily) is as close as you can get to Hong Kong’s Portland Street. Do try the Prawn Rice Roll and Pork Belly Buns— the meat is tender and soft, and will definitely tide you over.

11. Ponggol Nasi Lemak

Places to go at night near me

Punggol in name but far from it, Ponggol Nasi Lemak has never been in Punggol. It’s pretty ironic, but this is one of the more popular Chinese-style nasi lemaks. They also have Set Menus (from S$6.90) on Oddle where you can opt for a variety of ingredients such as chicken wings, vegetables, and fried fish.

12. Swee Choon Dim Sum

If you’ve never heard of Swee Choon Dim Sum, are you even Singaporean? This humble eatery is a definite contender for late-night supper excursions and probably will stay that way for the years to come. The Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun is one of my personal favourites, along with the Siew Mai and Steamed Pork Ribs. Thinking of it is already making me hungry; can you jio me the next time you’re craving Swee Choon? I’ll say yes for sure.

13. Ming Fa Fishball

Places to go at night near me

There are many Bak Chor Mee stalls in Singapore but few are open 24 hours like Ming Fa at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 when you need your fix. No need to worry about location as they have an outlet almost everywhere with most outlets open till the wee hours of the morning

Do try their Fuzhou Fishball, Fish Dumpling, and Crispy Pancake, and homemade sambal chillli, of course!

14. Beauty in The Pot

Places to go at night near me

If you’re up late at night craving some warm soup, Beauty in The Pot would be a great fix. Open until 3am, this eatery needs no introduction. The ingredients are of high quality, and you’ll be spoilt for choice from the variety— there’s Pork Jowl (S$8.80/S$17.60), Sliced Lamb (S$10/S$20), and much, much more. Pick from their array of soup bases, and just go to town, calorie deficit be damned.

15. Chomp Chomp Food Centre

Places to go at night near me

Do you love crowded places? Natural smokey scents? Limited seating? Then Chomp Chomp is just the place for you. Eating here is indeed an experience. For fans, this is arguably the best place on the island for sambal stingray, satay, oyster egg, chicken wings, and Hokkien mee. For others, this is overhyped and just makes your hair smell like BBQ. What’s your take?

16. Heng Long Teochew Porridge 兴隆潮洲粥

Located along the popular midnight eateries of Upper Serangoon Road, Heng Long has seen an increase in queues for its popular midnight Teochew Porridge, as well as an increase in price. One of my favourite hot spots for supper since I stay nearby, they have quite a large variety of comforting dishes to choose from.

The spicy minced pork, braised duck, fish cake and cabbage (高麗菜) are some standard accompanying orders, along with a bowl of braised sauce (卤汁). They’re all staples that won’t really go wrong with porridge, and the best part? It’ll only set you back less than S$10, making this an affordable option for hungry night owls.

17. Changi Village Area

Places to go at night near me

There’s 89.7 Supper Club, Dil’B Restaurant, and plenty of other food stalls that open till late in this area. Pretty much the stretch of Changi Village would be a good bet if you’re looking for something for supper. The best part is, there are many prata places in addition to places already mentioned that are also halal.

18. Chicken Up Korean Restaurant

Places to go at night near me

Founded in 2010 and expanding very aggressively in Singapore, Chicken Up at Tanjong Pagar is a good spot for some midnight chicken cravings. The very popular Wing Buffet (S$20 for Ladies and S$25 for Men from Sunday to Thursday & S$25 for Ladies and S$30 for Men on Friday & Saturday) is also available, but be wary that each order is freshly fried, so it takes some time to prepare in-between orders.

Hearing the name ‘Black Chicken Herbal Soup’ might make you think it’s one of those claypot soups where the black chicken sits quietly in the herbal stew, waiting for you to savour it.

Seng Kee Herbal Soup‘s top dishes include Mee Sua Soup with Pork, Liver, Kidney, and Bee Hoon Soup with Fried Fish— opt for the bigger portion if you want to share it with your dining companion and treat yourself to something comforting and warm.

20. Hai Di Lao

Places to go at night near me

Don’t be surprised to see highly-intoxicated people here trying to sober up as well because most Hai Di Lao outlets are open until 6am. Of course, it isn’t the cheap kind of supper like curry rice or prata, so expect your meal to come out to more than S$30 per pax, especially with their wide variety of ingredients, side dishes, and noodles

Perhaps the wide variety of food and superb service can make you look past the price. Hai Di Lao provides an impeccable service, so really, you’re paying for what you get.
