How to maintain your foam filter?Clean your bike beforehand, or at least make sure it is clean to prevent particles from falling into the intake sleeve. 1. CLEAN THE FILTER1a. Access the filterTo access the air filter you usually need to disassemble the seat, side cover or tank cover. You can probably find this information in the manufacturer’s manual. 1b. Disassemble the filterUnscrew or unclip the air filter. We recommend putting on a filter cover to prevent impurities from falling into the intake sleeve. Once disassembled, remove the filter from its cage and place it in a clean tray. 1c. Let's clean with Air Filter CleanerPour some Air Filter Cleaner in the tray and then soak the air filter foam in several times. Air Filter Cleaner effectively removes all impurities (dust, mud, sand, oils) without damaging the foam. For the last rinse, clean the tray and pour some clean air filter cleaner. Be careful not to go to the bottom of the tray all the impurities will be there! Do not hesitate to tap the air filter above the tray to remove all impurities. But never twist it! 1d. Wring out the filterSqueeze the air filter to avoid damaging it. Let dry for about 2 hours in a ventilated room. 2. OIL THE FILTERAir filter oil prevents water, mud, dust and sand from going into the engine by maintaining impurities on the air filter. A well-greased filter ensures more power and longer engine life! 2a. With Air Filter OilOnce the air filter is dry, take a clean tray and pour a few centimetres of air filter oil into it.
Put some gloves on and dip the air filter in the liquid. Knead it still without twisting it. It must be a 100% soaked. As our liquid is blue, it is easy to check that the oil is evenly distributed over the whole filter. For those who do not like to get dirty, you can use Air Filter Oil Spray. Its diffuser allows an easy application thanks to a wide and homogeneous spray. Be careful to spray the inner and outer parts of the filter. 2b. Remove the excess oilOnce you're done and the filter is well greased, press it to remove the excess oil. Let it dry for a few minutes on paper towels. 2c. Clean other parts of the filter with Air Filter CleanerWhile you're at it, clean the cage and screw. Also check that the intake sleeve is perfectly clean and, if necessary, clean it as well. 2d. Recommended step for extreme enduroIf you do extreme enduro in a very humid environment apply a thin layer of Waterproof Grease on the front of the filter before reassembling it to prevent water from flowing between the filter and the intake sleeve. And if you ride in the sand, we recommend putting a sock on the filter for a better protection. 2d. Reassemble the filterWhen reassembling the air filter on the bike, make sure that the filter is very well positioned in its original location, that the screw or clip are well tightened and positioned so that the filter can perfectly stop all impurities. You can check the appropriate positioning in the manufacturer’s manual. Once your air filter is in place, put the saddle, side cover or tank cover back on. And we're done ! It wasn't that hard !
