Re: Oil type: 5W-30 or 10W-30 5W30 is really only necessary if you (actually your car) experiences subzero temperatures. For climates such as CA and FL, year-round summer, 10W30 is best. I've noticed the manual also recommends 10W40 but I don't know anyone who's used this yet.

Works for me in NC. 10-23-2018, 08:59 PMRegistered User iTrader: (9) Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Silicon Valley Posts: 10,820 You will be fine using 5w30 in CA. The viscosity is only different in cold temps, but when the motor is up to temp, everything should be the same. I used 5w20 in my G for what seemed like forever in CA. If I remember correctly, you are better with a 40 weight when your motor has high mileage. I thought I bought Pennzoil full synthetic 10w30 but I grabbed 5w20 by mistake. Now oil is already drained from the car.. Do you guys think it's okay to use? Or should I get a ride and go switch it out for 10w30.. Can you use 10W 30 in G35?The specified engine oil grade for the G35 is 5W-30 which works great where temperatures drop below 0° F. If you live in a slightly hotter climate, other SAE grades like 10W-30 and 10W-40 are your best options.
