   Loose fuel cap: Before you start looking through all sorts of vehicle components, first check out the gas cap. A loose fuel cap can sometimes cause the check engine light to turn on. This could also be the case if the gas cap is not the right one for your Mazda.
2. Low fuel: If you get the check engine light while at the same time going low on fuel, it’s possible that the light illuminated because of the low fuel level, so be sure to refill as soon as possible.
