My Body is a Cage Lyrics

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

I'm standing on a stage
Of fear and self-doubt
It's...

When I hear this song I like to imagine I am a jelly bean. Trapped in a bag unable to come free. The bag it consumes me. I am stuck in the form of a jelly bean so I cannot be free. I have no leg or arms. Just a tasty blob of a body and I want to eat it... to eat myself in this jelly bean form. I wish to taste the delicious sugar that is me.

The song kinda holds the mood of someone that is gay, loving somebody else, but the other person is straight. ''my body is a cage, that keeps me from the dancing with the one i love" For example girl loves girl, but the other girl is straight, so her body is a cage that keeps her from dancing with the one she loves.

to me it represents eating disorders and evils inside us. as myself recovering from anorexia, it perfectly suits my situation. “my body is a cage, that keeps me from dancing with the one i love, but my mind holds the key” . those who has eating disorders can understand, evils inside us are making us shy, and embarrassed from ourselves and it limits our social life. even if you love someone, the person you love is never gonna able to totally understand you and you’re gonna feel lonely. our mind does not let us do something that we really want to do... “set my body free”. evils inside me, please set my body free. i am dying and it is your fault...

For me personally this song holds separate meanings. The first one being social anxiety. In the line "I'm standing on a stage of fear and self doubt.." it shows that the person whose perspective is used is kind of self conscious about their actions which can also be seen with the symbol of the stage. Since there is another line saying "you're standing next to me" it symbolises to me that the person is mentally not able to make that step to go and be in the 'spotlight' which is society or people. The other meaning is even more personal and its basically that the protagonist of this song is transgender and the body is literally a cage for them and it is just mental agony basically.

To me it represents those of us that have a body that is broken. Our minds are still full of life but our body doesn't match how we feel. Not able to do the things we once were able to do but now trapped in a cage wanting to be free again.

Arcade Fire My Body Is a Cage

Lyricist:Edwin 'win' Butler, William 'will' Butler, Regine Chassagne, Jeremy Gara, Timothy Kingsbury, Richard Parry

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key
My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

I'm standing on the stage
Of fear and self-doubt
It's a hollow play
But they'll clap anyway

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key
Standing next to me my mind holds the key

I'm living in an age
That calls darkness light
Though my language is dead
Still the shapes fill my head

I'm living in an age
Whose name I don't know
Though the fear keeps me moving
Still my heart beats so slow

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key
Standing next to me my mind holds the key
My body is a cage

My body is a cage
We take what we're given
Just because you've forgotten
Doesn't mean you're forgiven

I'm living in an age
Still turning in the night
But when I get to the doorway
There's no one in sight

I'm living in an age
Realizing I'm dancing
With the one I love
But my mind holds the key

Still next to me
My mind holds the key
Set my spirit free, set my spirit free
Set my body free, set my body free
Set my spirit free, set my body free, oh, oh
