The NRMP offers institutions and programs in the Main Residency Match® the option to link an advanced PGY2 program with one or more preliminary PGY1 programs to create a full course of training at the same institution for applicants interested in specialties that begin in the PGY2 year. In “joining” an advanced (A) PGY2 program to a preliminary (P) PGY1 program – Joint A/P – an applicant can only rank the joint preliminary PGY1 program on a supplemental rank order list if that list is attached to the joint advanced PGY2 program on the primary rank order list. This ensures that only applicants who match to the advanced program can match to that preliminary program. Show When the matching algorithm is processed, an attempt is made to match an applicant to the joint advanced PGY-2 program listed on the primary rank order list. If a match occurs, an attempt also is made to match the applicant to a position on the supplemental list attached to that joint advanced PGY-2 program. The joint preliminary PGY-1 program must be ranked by the applicant on the supplemental rank order list and should be ranked first to maximize the ability to obtain a continuous course of training at one institution. Matching to one of the prelim programs with whom we have a Joint Arrangement is not guaranteed in the same way that matching happens in a categorical program. In a categorical program, one rank list is submitted by the residency program and the matched applicants automatically complete their PGY1 at the internal medicine program that is categorically linked to the residency program. In an advanced program with one or more joint arrangements, each program submits a rank list; one by the residency program, and one by each jointly linked internal medicine program. A situation may arise where an applicant is ranked by the residency program and not by the jointly linked internal medicine programs. However, it is more common that all programs would rank the applicants. If you review our current residents, you will see that most of them have completed their PGY1 at North Shore University Health System or Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital. The joint arrangement simply allows applicants the flexibility to choose (or not) to complete their PGY1 at the linked programs if they so desire. 4646 North Marine Drive Category(ies): PMSR/RRA Authorized Positions: 5/5/5 Next On-site Evaluation: Fall 2023
