The SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster is almost upon us, over 15 years on from its initial release. The remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch and other platforms on June 23. Now, THQ Nordic has revealed more details about the new co-op mode built exclusively for this remaster, adding to the existing single-player. Show This new mode is similar to a typical horde mode, spread across 26 islands with seven playable characters. The trailer shows off SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Gary, Sandy, Squidward, Plankton, and Patrick as the playable options, each with unique attacking choices. This additional mode also supports two players in both couch and local co-op, a welcome option for Switch users. Details on this mode were revealed earlier this year, but the co-op offering has evolved since then. Gary has been added to the existing six characters, and here is our first look at the mode. For those unaware, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is a full blown remaster of the original 3D platformer that launched back in 2003. It is, by far, the most beloved Spongebob game. While it had middling reviews, it has garnered a cult following with the speedrunning community. Personally, I have never played it. I grew up watching Spongebob Squarepants, but it came out the same year as Tony Hawk's Underground and NBA Street Vol. 2. I didn't have time for cartoons when I was shreddin' the gnar and breakin' ankles. Regardless, it's cool THQ Nordic is bringing back this cult favorite.
