How to make a tomb out of paper

Our craft this month is an empty tomb to show that Jesus has risen and that he is alive! Here are the materials you will need for this activity:

1 Paper Plate

One Piece each of Blue, Green, Purple, and Dark Paper.

6 Popsicle Sticks

Glue or Tape

Scissors

Round Head Paper Fastener

Crayons or Markers

1. Lay down the blue paper and glue the green paper on top of it to make grass and sky. You may wish to cut the papers depending on the size.

2. Cut the paper plate in half. Cut a doorway to create an entrance to the tomb and glue a small piece of purple paper to the plate to cover the doorway.

3. Create the crosses by gluing or taping the popsicle sticks together.

4. Cut out a circle from the dark colored construction paper to create the stone large enough to cover the door.

5. Poke the round head paper fastener through one edge of the paper stone and through one side of the paper plate doorway. The stone should be able to rotate freely on the plate.

6. Glue the paper plate on to the grass and sky so that it looks like the tomb.

7. Affix the crosses to the top of the tomb using glue or tape.

8. Write "Jesus is Risen" on the purple paper in the tomb doorway.

9. Use crayons or markers to decorate the tomb, grass, sky and crosses.

I made this empty tomb model a few years back, and it has been used year after year! We reenact the Carrying of the Cross, The Passion and lay Jesus in the tomb on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday the stone has been rolled away and we can see He is Risen! Its lots of fun for the kids, it really engages them and brings this story to their level. I have wanted to do a tutorial for a while, but took limited photos while I was making it. I have made this short 5 minute video below to explain the steps for making it. I hope you give it a go! It doesn’t have to be exactly the same, just give it a try! And let me know how you go! I have also attached a few photos below of the tomb, and our Easter Sunday set up from a few years back!
