Cash App allows you to send money to friends, family, and vendors directly from your iPhone or Android phone.

The mobile payment platform, owned by Square, launched a Cash Card in 2017. The card lets users spend their Cash App balance at eligible retailers, and withdrawal money from ATMs (without a fee) across the US.

Basically it works just as you'd expect a debit card to work — purchases made using the Cash Card are taken out of your Cash App balance and cataloged on the Cash App.

Here's what you need to know to use it.

How to use the Cash App card, called Cash Card

If you haven't already applied for a Cash Card, you can follow these steps to order your card in the Cash App.

Once your Cash Card comes in the mail, activate it using the Cash App. You will also be asked to assign a pin number to your Cash Card through the activation process, which you can change at any time.

After you have activated your Cash Card, you'll be able to use it at retailers in the US who accept Visa. If you've used your Cash Card to buy something and then ended up returning it, refunds can take up to 10 days to reflect back on your balance.

In the Cash App, you can disable your Cash App card if you have temporarily misplaced it. If suspicious charges appear on your list of transactions, you can dispute them through Cash App support.

You can use your Cash Card physically or digitally through the app. Money at 30/YouTube

You can also add your Cash Card to Apple Pay or Google Pay in case you find yourself without your physical card.

If you use your Cash Card to withdraw money from an ATM with a fee, Cash App will reimburse the fee, too, but only if your Cash Card receives a direct deposit of $50 or more a month.

If you would like to keep a record of your Cash App transactions, you can download your statement using a desktop computer by going to https://cash.app > Statements > Export.

I often use my Cash App card to withdraw money from various ATMs. The convenience is great, except I was getting charged each time. This got me thinking – was there a free ATM for Cash App withdrawals?

Our team spent hours of research looking for such a thing, but alas – there are no ATMs that give you free Cash App withdrawals. BUT we did find two ways to virtually pay no fees. We'll share those methods here.

Read all the way to the end because these methods could save you hundreds in bank and Cash App fees! We've also included an ATM locator at the end of the article where you can use your Cash App card.

In this article

  • Method 1: Get Cash App to reimburse your ATM fees
  • Method 2: Transfer from Cash App to your bank account, then withdraw from ATM
  • How much can you save with these fee-free methods?
  • Conclusion: You can get money off Cash App for free

Method 1: Get Cash App to reimburse your ATM fees

Cash App will cover your ATM fees if you get $300 or more deposited directly into your Cash App account each month. The deposits must be in the form of salaries or unemployment benefits (what Cash App terms a “qualifying deposit”).

Cash App covers both the bank's fees and Cash App's ATM fees, up to $7 per withdrawal. And you can withdraw up to 3 times in the 31 days following your deposit.

Every time you make a qualifying deposit, Cash App renews the 31 days of ATM fee reimbursement.

This page has more information from Cash App on this offer, as well as steps to set up direct deposits for your account.

We found that setting up direct deposits was really easy and Cash App started automatically returning the ATM fees. You won't need to manually request for the reimbursements.

If that doesn't work for you, here's how you can reach out to Cash App's support team:

  • Raise your concerns through the app using Cash App Support.
  • Go to the Support page, then tap the “Contact Support” link at the bottom.
  • Call 1 (800) 969-1940.

Method 2: Transfer from Cash App to your bank account, then withdraw from ATM

This method will allow you to get money off your Cash App for free. The only catch is that it's not instant.

In a nutshell, you send the money from Cash App to your bank account using the no-fee standard transfer. This will take 1 – 3 business days to go through.

From there, you just go to your bank's ATM and withdraw your money. Usually your bank won't charge a fee for ATM withdrawals, making the entire transaction free.

To save you having to visit multiple Cash App pages, we've summarize the steps to do the transfer below:

First link your bank account to Cash App:

  • In Cash App, click your profile icon on the home screen
  • Choose “Linked Banks” > click “Link Bank”.
  • Follow the prompts until you successfully link your bank account

Next, transfer money from Cash App to your bank account.

  1. Click your balance located on the bottom left corner of the homepage.
  2. Choose the Cash Out option.
  3. Adjust how much of your available balance you want to transfer.
  4. Select the Instant option at the bottom of the screen if you want to immediately receive the money. Otherwise, pick the Standard option, but it will take more time for the transfer to reflect on the bank account.
  5. Click Done.

How much can you save with these fee-free methods?

You can use any ATM with the Cash App card, but most banks charge a non-network ATM fee. Here's how much you'd pay per withdrawal using the Cash App card and how much you'll save if you follow our methods:

Bank Non-network ATM fee Cash App Fee Savings per Withdrawal
Union Bank $2.00 $2.00 $4.00
First Horizon Bank $2.00 $2.00 $4.00
Frost Bank $2.00 $2.00 $4.00
Bank of America $2.50 $2.00 $4.00
HSBC Bank USA $2.50 $2.00 $4.50
Wells Fargo $2.50 $2.00 $4.50
JPMorgan Chase $2.50 $2.00 $4.50
Citibank $2.50 $2.00 $4.50
HSBC Bank $2.50 $2.00 $4.50
Citizens Bank $3.00 $2.00 $5.00
M&T Bank $3.00 $2.00 $5.00

As you can see, you could be saving anywhere from $4 to $5 a transaction. Multiply that by the 3 times that Cash App will cover, and you're looking at savings of $12 to $15 every 31 days. That's $144 to $180 a year!

Conclusion: You can get money off Cash App for free

Yes, it’s possible to withdraw money from Cash App at an ATM for free. The two methods aren't hard to do, and could save you hundreds a year.
