How to Send Money From Cash App to Venmo

Cash App and Venmo are direct competitors in the new digital banking landscape. Unfortunately, this also means that the two aren’t compatible and don’t support direct money transfers between the two apps.

Transferring money between Cash App users is easy. The same goes when transferring money from Venmo to Venmo users. However, sending money from your Cash App account to your or someone else’s Venmo account; not so easy.

You can’t even transfer money between Venmo and PayPal, two companies that are part of the same ownership group (PayPal). Welcome to the digital banking landscape.

The one neobank that made this right is Chime. They made it easy with their Pay Anyone feature to send cash to anybody that has a valid debit card.

But, let’s get back to Cash App and Venmo. The “easiest” way of making instant or standard money transfers is adding a Venmo debit card to your Cash App account. That way you can Cash Out with ease.

To add a Venmo debit card to Cash App:

  1. Open Cash App
  2. Tap on the profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Tap on “Linked Banks” or “Add Bank”
  4. Tap on “Link Bank”
  5. Enter your debit card number
  6. Enter your card’s expiration date
  7. Enter CVV
  8. Enter ZIP code

Send Money to a Connected Bank Account

There’s another method of sending money from Cash App to Venmo that includes a connected bank account. This is an easy method of transferring money if you have both Cash App and Venmo accounts and you have the same bank account linked to both of them.

In that case, you would simply send money from Cash App to your connected bank account and forward it to Venmo. And vice versa.

CASH APP > CONNECTED BANK ACCOUNT > VENMO

If you just openned a Cash App or a Venmo account and you don’t know how to add a bank account, here’s how to do it.

Let’s start with Cash App. The process of adding a bank account is the same as we already outlined above. You tap the profile icon and choose “Add Bank”. You then fill out the details of your bank’s debit card and it’s done.

To add your bank account’s debit card to Venmo, open the Venmo app and:

  1. Open the “Me” tab (profile picture or initials)
  2. Tap on Settings (gear icon)
  3. Tap on “Payment Methods”
  4. Tap on “Add bank or card”
  5. Tap on “Card”
  6. Use your phone’s camera to add your card details
  7. Or enter the card details manually

You can also add your bank account instead of the debit card, although it ultimately doesn’t make any difference. Here’s how:

  1. Open the “Me” tab (profile picture or initials)
  2. Tap on Settings (gear icon)
  3. Tap on “Payment Methods”
  4. Tap on “Add bank or card”
  5. Tap on “Bank”
  6. Choose Instant Verification or Manual Verification

If you choose instant verification, you will have to enter your username and password in Plaid to connect your bank account. Find your bank on the list or search for it in the search bar.

Once you’ve chosen your bank, it’s time to login using your credentials. Enter the security code that was sent to you and choose the bank account from the list.

If you chose the manual verification method, you’ll need to enter your bank account’s routing and account numbers. After that, Venmo will send two microtransfers to your bank account both less than $1.

In order to not go into overdraft, make sure you have at least two dollars in your bank account. Once you see these microtransfers in your bank account statement, head back to Venmo and complete the verification.

Now that you’ve added a connected bank account (debit card) to both apps, you can transfer funds back and forth using the linked account.

Venmo Debit Card

Can you transfer venmo to cash app

So we mentioned that the easiest way of sending money from Cash App to Venmo is to add your Venmo debit card to Cash App.

What if you don’t have a Venmo debit card? Is it worth getting one?

Venmo debit card is a free Mastercard that lets you spend your Venmo balance, just like Cash Card lets you use Cash App balance to shop.

The two cards have another thing in common. You can use them only in the US. Except that you can use Cash Card in the UK as well. But, in general, you can use these debit cards only to pay for things and services inside the United States. You can’t even order things online from outside of the country.

Then there are Venmo Offers which correlate to Cash App Boosts. But, whereas with Boosts, you get discounts with select merchants, with Offers you get cashback.

Another thing worth mentioning is automatic reloads. If you don’t have enough money in your Venmo balance, the app will pull funds from your bank account to cover for the purchase.
