Dec 20, 2013 Hi all, i just had my first oil change done at 6000KM. Right now in calgary the temperatures are crazy cold. I noticed when my car was parked out in the cold it took a long time to warm up etc with the factory oil that it came with. My car seems get to warmer VERY VERY quickly now since the oil change, but is it OK for my car to have 5W30 oil>>>??? Joined Dec 17, 2013 · 662 Posts
5w30 is just fine, nothing to worry about. Being a 30 it MAY hurt your milage a tiny bit, like less than 1 MPG. It will not hurt your car at all.

Dec 20, 2013 thanks, with the factory oil during summer i was getting about 950KM in a tank, and during winter it was less, considerably like around 700KM, but now with the new oil car feels so smooth, more powerful and gets warmer quicker and better mileage! Joined Dec 17, 2013 ·

Cars generally get worse MPG in Winter. Fuel has some additives to keep ice from forming and cold air is more dense, you you need more fuel to mix with it. Joined Oct 16, 2008 · 2,492 Posts Joined Jul 27, 2013 · 132 Posts
just got my 2nd oil change at the dealership. first was done at 3000 miles went in with 6500 miles. when the car was done the guy made me aware that these cars require synthetic oil and he guessed the person who serviced the car the first time "didnt know" and gave me a regular oil change last time Joined Aug 24, 2012 · 1,340 Posts

The manual clearly states 5W-30 conventional is also acceptable for the i4, and recommended for the V6. I always use synthetic and believe in it's qualities, but it is by no means required by Nissan. As you can see from Throckmorton's various

On these new engines, I believe you're much better off sticking your preferred brand of synthetic 0W-20 in for 7,500 miles at a time. Mobil 1 is only $23 at wal-mart now. 5W-30 is fine in the engine, but I would've made them put synthetic in for sure. These engines come off the assembly line with synthetic in them. I wouldn't want to switch
to conventional just because some oil change tech messed up. Joined Nov 14, 2013 · 2,742 Posts
