2012 jeep grand cherokee 3.6 oil type

Is there a specific type of oil I should buy for my Jeep Grand Cherokee if I want to do an at-home oil change?

Answer provided by

The exact oil you need for your Jeep Grand Cherokee depends on the year, trim level, and engine type. The 2022 Grand Cherokee comes with either a 3.6-liter V6 engine or a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. For the V6 engine, you’ll need 0W-20 synthetic oil. For the V8 engine, you’ll need 5W-20 synthetic oil.

Fortunately, this generation and the last generation of the Grand Cherokee have the same engines—so if your Jeep is a 2011 model or newer, the same oil types will apply. If you have an older version of the Grand Cherokee, it’s important to look into the exact engine that powers your SUV.

As for brands, Jeep recommends using Mopar, Pennzoil, or Shell Helix oil. However, if you have a different preferred brand, it should be fine as long as it’s the right type and it’s fully synthetic.

If you’re not sure which oil is right for your Jeep Grand Cherokee, it’s best to double-check your owner’s manual. It should also contain basic directions for an at-home oil change, as well as information regarding oil filters.

Hello all, new member here, and I have a question regarding oil for my first change on my new Jeep GC.
Traditionally, I have changed the oil in new engines at about 500 miles to help in getting rid of manufacturing debris, and was wondering what every one felt about going to full synthetic at around 500 miles or should I use regular dino for the first two or three oil changes? There is nothing in the owners manual regarding synthetic oil.
Thanks in advance for any info.

My first oil change was done at 1000km and used Mobil 1 Gold 0W40.

My manual came with a yellow "addenum" card that says, "The manufacturer recommends the use of a full synthetic SAE 0W-40 engine oil or equivelent."

I did not get anything like this. What year is yours? It is the V6 correct? Any chance you could scan or take a picture of this addendum?

Now that I posted the pic, I notice the number at the bottom right says "12SRT8". I bet this card is intended to add information for just the SRT. If so, that point is not clear at all, at least not to me.

OP, I was always told to do that first one between 500-1200 miles. So I feel you on the early oil change. I only use Mobile 1 synthetic in my vehicles.

How do ya like that! Someone posts a legitimate question and all this dimwit can come up with is a picture of a Crisco canola oil bottle. Don't guess he has anything substantial to add. Maybe he should move to the cooking show.

It was a joke. You're question was answered multiple times already. Don't be so sensitive. It's the Internet.

I do apologize however. You are new and I'll take that into consideration. Sorry.
