Jeep jl flush mount tail lights

The big bold boxy rear factory tail lamps on the JL are a hit for style; unfortunately, they're also often a hit on the trails rocks, trees, and obstacles. We've had our share of duct-taped factory plastic tail lamps that are cracked and filling up with water, and designed this elegant tail lamp replacement upgrade to increase clearance and minimize damage to your tail lamps.

Product Details

We've designed these slimmer JL Flush LED Tail Lamp Housings that bring the tail lamp in much closer to the body. As a bonus, the rubber gasket that holds the LED in place is flexible, decreasing the risk of cracking them to pieces.

These are  *not* compatible with blind-spot detection features optioned on some JLs. Installation of these on a Jeep with factory blind spot detection will require disabling of the blind spot detectors.

Pair these with our rear corner armor for maximum protection. You'll be ready to hit the trails and drive home without having to duct tape anything back onto your JL, and without worrying about rear corner damage.

Features

  • Installation uses existing factory mounting points
  • No exposed hardware
  • No drilling is required; some wiring/splicing is required
  • Sold as a pair of Left/Right housings; lights are sold separately here.

Separate backup lamps are recommended for use with LED lamps shown here (such as rear bumper-mounted lights).

Installation, Wiring and Blind Spot Detectors and Lights Out Errors

Installation takes about 30-90 minutes. Wiring and paint prep is the majority of this time depending on if you have ordered steel or aluminum housings. The Wiring Diagrams and instructions can be found here on the lights product page. We offer these separately as some customers prefer to source their own LEDs for use with these housings. The diagrams on the product page for the lights should work for most common DOT Approved LEDs that fit this profile.

These *do not* work with the blind spot detection system sometimes optioned on the JL Wrangler -- as the sensors are built into the factory tail lamps and cannot be made to work inside this metal housing.

On vehicles equipped with halogen tail lamps from the factory, lights may blink fast. This can be corrected by resetting your computers light configuration to "LEDS" rather then halogens. Lights out warnings will be found on the dash at the time the vehicle starts up with nearly all aftermarket tail lamp housings since they do not have the factory health monitoring systems built into them. These health monitor systems will need to be shut off if you wish to not see the error on vehicle start up -- however the lights will operate just fine even if the health monitors and error messages are occurring. In order to disable the healthy monitor system, you'll need access to a programmer such as the JL Tazer.

Reprogramming to disable health monitors (Not Required, but preferred if you have a programmer!)

Change lamps from LED to Halogen. Then back to LED. (If your vehicle starts off with Halogens, switch to LED, switch back to Halogen and then again to LED - you must end on LED mode regardless)

After the lamp mode has been changed twice (ending on LED) allow for a few sleep cycles of the vehicles computers. A sleep cycle usually requires that the vehicle be shut off, keys removed, driver door closed, and allow a few minutes with no activity before returning to the vehicle.

Final step: return to the vehicle, start it up, and turn on each blinker for 20 seconds. You will see an error message initially, but it should clear within those 20 seconds. After this, you should not see the health monitoring system error messages on start up.

Additional Details

Products are designed and fabricated to fit vehicles that have varying tolerances from the factory, minor hand fitting may be required.

Products are shipped bare metal unless otherwise specified by the customer. Bare metal products may have scratches or surface imperfections as a result of raw material handling, manufacturing, and fabrication. However, these imperfections are easily covered up with a textured powder coat finish. Additional finishing, sanding, and prep work may be required if you wish to also have them finished with a smooth powder coat or paint.

Projected lead times are estimates only, and are subject to changes due to production realities, including material and labor availability and sudden variability in order volume. Lead times are not guaranteed, but we do guarantee that we are hard at work trying to get the best product we can produce and into our customers’ hands as quickly as possible.

All Next Venture Motorsports products are laser cut, CNC formed, and hand-weld with pride in the USA. We are a Colorado-based business, and welcome visitors by appointment at our Grand Junction, CO headquarters. We hope to see you out there on the trail soon!

Are JL and JT tail lights the same?

Well-Known Member. 2020 JL incandescent tail lamps are 55112890AG and 55112891AG right and left respectively. 2020 JT incandescent tail lamps are 68336576AF and 68336577AF, right and left respectively. They are indeed different.

Will Jeep JL tail lights fit a JK?

Short answer is no. Long answer is a second to aggrex's comment that anything is possible. The JK tail lights (as all the OEM lights back to but not including the MB) are surface mount. The JL tail lights mount in a hole in the rear corner of the body tub that extends into the rear quarter panel.
