Default Help wanted in Removing 2008 A6 Driver's side Lock

I have a 2008 Audi A6 Avant. The door will lock with the key but will not unlock with the key fob, however, it will unlock from inside with the handle release. I think the problem is the door lock activator ~the microswitch. I have managed to strip down the door panel and have access to the back of the lock, but I do not know how or cannot see a way to remove the plastic lock cover? Do need to remove the window mechanism? Any ideas how I can remove the door lock now?

Are you sure you have a C5? I'm not sure a 2008 is a C5. If so, I don't know if a C5 door is the same as a C6 door so I'm not sure I would be able to help you.

Default Help wanted in Removing A6 C6 Driver side Lock

Thank you for the video raj99, Ive's got to this stage, but there a plastic cover over the lock inside the door frame which I cannot see how to remove? Note this not shown in the video. I think that my car is a C6 platform should I post this request for help on the C6 platform thread?

Your problem is the lock actuator because I had the same issue and replacing the actuator fixed it. However, do yourself and favor and don't get a $40 one from ebay or Amazon. I did and it did not work correctly. I opted for one from a car in the junkyard for $50 as opposed to $380 new. I know I am playing with a ticking time bomb but I will take my chances to save $330.Don't worry about removing the plastic lock cover. It will get in your way and drive you crazy but you can do it with it in there. I don't even know if it is possible to remove without just ripping it out of there. No you don't need to remove the window mechanism. Just remove the bose speaker at the bottom of the door so it is out of your way. Then you will be able to remove the one screw at the bottom of the long black track. You can see him wiggling it in the video. Mine did not move nearly as much as his did in the video so I'm not sure what else he removed but I didn't see any other screws to remove.

Remove the two bolts on the side of the door.

Then there will be 5 or so things that you will need to remove. I have circled 3 of them on this picture.Remove the big electrical connection at the bottom (circled on the left of the picture).Remove the metal bar (not pictured) that snaps into the piece circled in the middle of the picture. This can be tricky because the black piece opens and swings towards the grey piece in the picture. This will allow the metal bar to come out. But you have to push the large yellow piece forward in order to get the black piece to release that will then allow you to pull the metal bar to come out. You have to pull it out because it snaps in to the back portion of the yellow piece. You can locate the metal bar because it will move up and down when you lift up on the outside door handle. Then comes the difficult part. Because the hard plastic can't be removed, there is going to be a piece of it wrapped around the big electrical connection (left side of the picture) that you unplugged earlier. That is going to prevent you from lowering the actuator out of the door. You will probably have to break this portion. I broke mine. I believe it's function is to help hold some of the weight of the lock actuator. Don't worry, you should be able to get it to wrap back around the connector when you install the new one.Once you break that thing off, you will then be able to lower the lock some. Lowering it will allow the short stiff wire with a "blade" shaped device on the end of it to come out of the yellow hole that is circled on the right side of the picture. This piece is really tricky to get back in the hole when you are reinstalling it (so is the metal bar into the black and yellow piece by the way). Now you have access to remove the long cable that is attached to the inside door handle. You unhooked this from the back side of the door handle when you removed the door panel. You should be able to find it because at this point it will be the only thing holding the lock in the door. You then rotate the plastic piece to unattach it from the lock (it attached to the gray piece at the very top of my picture) and then there is a little metal piece at the end of the wire that you rotate and it will come off completely.Once the lock is completely free, lift it all the way to the top of the door as far as you can go and GENTLY rotate it until you find the right position that will allow you to slip it around the black bar. BE CAREFUL and GENTLE. If you don't, you will end up pushing out your door panel from the inside and when you close your door and look at it from the outside you will see all sorts of small bulges that you created from shoving that lock against the inside of the door. Don't ask me how I know. LOL. Installation is the reverse of removal. LOL. Don't you love it when people say that. Makes it sound real easy doesn't it. Well it's not. LOL. It is for me because I have done it 3 times but the first time took 5 hours.

Good luck.

Default Help wanted in Removing A6 C6 Driver side Lock

Thank you Akingzkid, for your comprehensive reply and advice. Once I have the door actuator out which looks a tall order, I was intending to rebuild it, by replacing the micro-switch etc, but getting it out look a major issue now.

Dear All,

Alas, I had to take the window frame out, as I'm not as dexterous as members who managed to take the actuator out without removing the window frame. When I took the actuator apart, the microswitches are now moulded into the plastic so it not possible to replace them any more, see photo below:-

As funds are stretched for a new Audi actuator at 300+ it's now a choice between a used actuator or a new cheap one? I know that Akingzkidat bought a cheap one and it did not work properly? However, there appears to be a lot of variation in both price and quality. So do any members have any experience of using cheap replacement actuators which they would recommend?

BR,

Oobals,
