I have an '04 RX8. Went out to start it and the first time it turned over a coulple times then got series of clicks. Let it sit for about 1/2 hour tried again and it turned over then the turn overs got slower but still no start. So I hooked it to a battery charger and did a battery test (read about 12v). The charger manaual said around 12.8v is a charged battery so I let it charge for an hour or so then the charger read closer to 13. Tried again but no start. Show Just wondering if it's the batter. It's been sitting in our garage for about a month because of the cold weather (I started it about 1 1/2 weeks ago and started fine). Thanks for any and all help. It Cranks But Won't Start06-06-2005, 10:47 PMSenior Member Thread Starter
Join Date: Apr 2003 Location: Long Island, NY Posts: 442 so, the rebuild i've been working on for forever, cuz i've been away at school is finally in the car, and i'm trying to start it. It cranks really hard, but won't turn over and start. Any suggestions? I'm trying to make a list of things to check to try to find out what's wrong. -drain the gas, and put new gas in the tank -shoot the timing -test to see if there's a spark - - - - - - - - -buy new fuel injectors and see if they are the problem (hence why it's on the bottom of the list) any other ideas? thanks, -jeff 06-07-2005, 04:43 AMSenior Member
Come to find out, flooding is not just bad injectors only. It has a lot of factors, low compression, fuel injectors, also when the ECU has not been warmed up or should I say the engine, it will continue spitting fuel into the engine. So thats why people get flooding when they just move their cars out of the drive way. 06-08-2005, 05:39 AMSenior Member

I took every thing off, made sure all the vac lines and electrical connectors had places to go or if they didnt and wern't needed were out of the way. Had some known good plugs and wires, tested for spark and that the injecotrs wern't leaking. Checked if there was fuel pressure. uh, made sure no fuses were blown. 06-08-2005, 05:36 PMSenior Member Thread Starter

I just saw in the timing article that it is supposed to be 5 degrees retarded, i thought it was advanced because of how it is abriviated in the FSM. I'm gonna go reshoot the timing cuz its almost turning over, and see if it helps. Otherwise, i guess i'll start looking for a vacum leak. ps, where would be the best place to pick up some 550 and 720(max volume for the stock computer right?) cc fuel injectors? just in case. What are the possible causes of the engine cranks but does not start? If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won't start, it could be because fuel isn't getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
How do I reset my Mazda RX8?Two easy ways, disconnect the battery and leave it like that for at least 10 minutes, sometimes longer. To expedite the process disconnect the battery and hold down the brake pedal, itll drain the KA power quicker. This will allow all codes to clear and KAM to clear.
