  • Where is the spare tire on a Mazda CX-9?

I think my daughter’s Mazda CX-9 comes with some sort of spare tire—but where can I tell her to find it?

You can find your Mazda CX-9’s tire beneath the luggage board in the rear cargo space.

Here’s how to access it:

  • Set the third-row seat backs to their upright position
  • Raise the luggage board while pulling it towards you, then insert the bottom edge into the holders
  • If your vehicle has a luggage mat, remove it and store it between the raised luggage board and third-row seat backs
  • Remove the tool bag
  • If your vehicle has a subwoofer, disconnect the subwoofer connector
  • Turn the connector bolt counter-clockwise and remove the spare tire (and the subwoofer, if applicable)

Keep in mind that the CX-9 only comes with a temporary spare, which is designed to be lighter and smaller than a conventional tire. Temporary tires are only for emergency use and should be utilized for very short periods of time—basically, to get you to the nearest tire shop to repair or replace your regular tire.

Always be sure to drive extremely carefully when using your temporary spare. Never exceed 50 mph and avoid driving over obstacles, such as potholes and speed bumps.

When you’re finished using your temporary spare, you can return it to its storage compartment by following the removal directions in reverse order.

A spare tire is a great way to prepare for unexpected car troubles. Another great way to stay prepared? Reliable Mazda CX-9 car insurance.

Timing belt or timing chain? The CX-9 V6 engine does not have a timing belt; it uses a timing chain instead. A timing chain doesn't need to be replaced unless it becomes stretched and noisy.
