Brake Light Switch Stopper Replacement?

I was driving home today and felt something hit my left foot. I thought nothing of it until I had to remove the key from my car. Car was dead, and so I jump started it. Found out my plastic stopper on the brake pedal broke off causing my brake lights to remain on (which was the thing that hit my foot). Anyone know a good replacement? I was thinking a bolt and nut, but the head might be too thick. Any ideas?

I just got a plug from a hardware store. A penny works, but I like the little black plug from the store better.

Hey sorry to bring up an old post, but what is the thing called that you got from the hardware store that worked as a brake pedal stopper pad? And what store? Mine broke and it would save me a lot of drive time to get this at lowes or something vs a honda dealership.

FYI for any do it your selfers, a nickel and a dime glued together is the perfect thickness to push the brake switch in, then you just glue the nickel side to the brake arm (I used loc-tite super glue for metal). No more problems with plastic pieces breaking, problem solved.

I ran into this issue with my 99 Corolla. I used the dealership part, what they call a brake light switch cushion. The reason? The broken rubber switch cushion had an indentation from the brake light switch. If this switch cushion were metal, I imagine the indentation would be in the brake light switch. Brake light switches are more expensive to replace than switch cushions, both in terms of the parts cost and labor involved. Replacing the switch cushion involved starting the engine, pressing on the brake pedal with my left hand and pressing the switch cushion into place - in the notch provided - with my right hand in the 3/4" gap opened up between the switch cushion holder and the brake light switch. I don't even want to think about the amount of work involved in replacing the brake light switch.

Just in case it helps someone else, this happened me tonight, 2005 Honda Pilot, after auto parts stores closed. I cut a piece from a rubber eraser, left a prong stick out, pushed into the hole in brake pedal and used tape to secure it. Tomorrow I'll get the proper part.
