Your TJ has an NP231 t-case. Again, use any kind of ATF in it... any kind if you're completely refilling it from empty but just to stay on the safe side use ATF+3 or ATF+4 which is the usual ATF used in Jeeps.

I see this have never been answered, and I do have the same question - would RP Max ATF be fine? I have a few spare bottles and would like to use that in my T-Case tomorrow when I replace some seals and drain everything.

I know ATF+4 is cheap, but these are just taking up shelf space so I might as well use them.

Those two questions (post #7 & 8 above) were already answered three times above where it said the transfer case used in our TJs is happy with any ATF. Once again, the Wrangler's transfer case is NOT fussy about its ATF. The owner's manual ONLY specfies the kind of ATF it gets so it will match the kind of ATF the automatic transmission requires which IS fussy about the kind of ATF it gets.

Well I guess that translates to no one having any bad stories about using RP Max ATF so I guess I will give it a shot.

Jerry, the TC I just bought off of RNEMOVR was the won that TransferCasesUnlimited gave away awhile back.

Anyways, it's a NP231 with HD SYE, HD Chain, 6 Pinion (something) and 32 spline output...

on the case, it says "Fill with 5-30 gear oil only" in permanent marker...

Any idea why it would say that.. and should I do what it says, or go with ATF?

That's not a factory TC, fill it with what the builders recommend.
