My freezer keeps thawing and refreezing every few weeks. I constantly have to clean out the ice that builds up on the bottom. Sometimes I can see the seal on the door is not closing all the way but then after I get it to stop doing that(usually after about 2-3weeks) it seems fine. Then after another few weeks it starts doing this again.

Hello JJ, Thank you for the question. If the gasket is not sealing it will allow warm air in and cause issues with the Defrost Cycle. We hope this helps!

Hello Bruce, Thank you for the question. We suggest to check the water lines to the ice maker to make sure the lines have not froze over and is blocking the water from getting to the Ice Maker. Next, replace the Water Filter if it is over 6 months old. It can effect the water Pressure and the water will not be able to make it to the Ice maker. If the Filter is under 6 months, you can test the Valve. It has two ports, one for the Ice Maker and one for the Dispenser. Set your multitester to the R X 1 ohms setting to test for continuity. Place each of the multitester's leads on a terminal. Your multitester should display a reading between 200 and 500 ohms. Closely examine your water inlet valve. The exact ohm resistance rating you should test for may be marked on the valve. We hope this helps!

Removing the existing filter by rotating as directed and then dislodging from 'docking' station proved difficult. Turns out, the old filter is under a bit of vacuum pressure and getting the unit to separate or release was a challenge.

I removed the drop-down outer housing by gently prying the sides of the two pivot pins at the rear. This gave me move 'room' to grip and slightly rotate then pull the old filter forward and away from the tight suction connection. I was concerned that I would be too forceful for the plastic assemblies and would break something; deliberate motions and a steady thought process on the problem helped disengage the darned old filter!

How do I reset a Whirlpool ice maker?

The reset button is usually located at the bottom of the ice maker unit or in some cases at the top or on the bottom of the ice tray. Once located, press the button down for a few seconds until you hear a beep sound. Once you hear the beep sound, let go of the button. Once reset, check if the problem has been solved.

How do I troubleshoot my Whirlpool ice maker?

First, make sure your water filter is up to date to help avoid clogs that reduce water flow. Next, double check that the water line behind the refrigerator isn't kinked or twisted. Lastly, use a leveler to ensure that your refrigerator and ice maker are level so water distributes evenly throughout the ice tray.

Why would my Whirlpool refrigerator stop making ice?

A clogged water filter, kinked water line hose, or defective water inlet valve can restrict the water flowing to an ice maker. When this happens, ice production will be limited or completely stop.
