What does chanel no 5 smell like reddit

I have been given a bottle of Chanel no 5 I’m 24 yr old and it just smells dated to me kinda like baby powder and my mother says it stinks is it worth keeping and using it should I sell it? I feel bad selling it but it smells old. I usually go for quieter scents that are more feminine and classy.

I was gifted no5 twenty years ago, by an ex- boyfriend. I kept it and used it a little because it was a gift, but it was never really me. I gave it away last year to someone who loves it, and it makes her happier than it ever made me.

My advice is to keep it for a while in case you grow to love it, then get rid.

By the way I wonder what is the original composition of CHANEL N5 EDT, EDP or Parfum?

I'm of the opinion that the person makes the fragrance, not the other way around. I have some fragrances that I ordinarily attribute to older women, but when I wear them I like to think they take on a more youthful vibe. I realize that Twilly was made to be younger, but I think it smells older... until I put it on. It's all how you wear it :).

youll be old one day soon. use it then.

Some would say Chanel No. 5 is the epitome of feminine and classy.

I think Its worth keeping. My high-school boyfriend gifted me a bottle 15 years ago. I was a bit disappointed at first, because I wanted Chance, but even after all these years it still remains in my wardrobe. I wear it when I want to smell like “ Old Money” but to each its own :-)

I understand the idea that it smells “older” but I’m older than you (by a lot) and I don’t think I will ever care for aldehydic scents like Chanel No 5. Wear what you like. Toss/sell/give it away.

No idea why people blind buy expensive frags, especially when you can literally sample them for free in tons of places

My grandma got it for me I didn’t buy it she knows I like classic stuff just I don’t have a preference for this

Posh baby if they have a baby powder smelling of No.5! If it's the EdT you won't get much for it anyway. Put it in a drawer. It will keep and you can rediscover it years later or after you've read Tilar J. Mazzeo's fascinating 'The Secret History of Chanel No.5'

I keep bottles of each scent women in my family have worn. This was one of two that belonged to my Mom and I keep them for the scent memories. I do not wear it out, but sometimes I sleep in it.

I have bottles of the scents my grandmothers wore, aunts, great-grandmothers, my sister, etc.

You’ve given me an amazing idea. I’m gonna do this. Thank you!!

Honestly, chuck it if you really don't like it, but give it a good chance. I've initially hated things that I've grown to love. And smelling like sexy grandma/pa is something I'm now so, so down with.

Sell sell sell. Your grandma would prefer you to have something you will use

That's pretty much what I thought of No5 the first time I smelled it (around your age). A long time later I smelled it again and loved it. Keep it a while. My taste evolved and yours could too.

Chanel No 5 is the most beautiful family of scents out there, but it is not for everyone. If you don't want to wear it you should display it on your vanity, especially since it was a gift... Maybe in a few years you will change your mind about it :-)

level 1

If you don't enjoy it, then you shouldn't feel compelled to use it or even keep it. Just don't throw it out, plenty of people (myself included) love No5.

level 1

If you don't like it, then get rid of, however, was a gift so...tread lightly.

level 2

My grandma her mom gave it to me

level 1

The new version...I don't think it worth keeping, especially when you don't even like it. The longevity is merely average, the composition is not as intriguing as the parfum version, you really don't have to force yourself to like it.

However, if the person who gave me this matters a lot to me, I probably won't sell it.

level 2

Has the scent changed since the original?

level 1

I would make yourself a sample vial for reference later and sell the bottle. Sometimes it's nice to see your views of a fragrance change over the years, and it's also handy to reference different scents when you want to say something smells like something else.

You can get a bunch of sample dab vials on Amazon inexpensively or ask to take a spray vial from Nordstrom, maybe other stores that make samples.
