Toyota highlander rear brake rotor replacement cost

Stealership jackasses. Only thing my dealer gets my money for is tiny bulk parts, like sealing washers and bulbs.

And with Roman here, I don't even have to pay their crappy markup if I'm willing to wait a couple days!

I can provide a recent dealer front only brake service job cost on my 2012 Limited. A couple months ago, while getting the tires rotated and balanced at a National Tire and Brake place, their complimentary brake inspection resulted in informing me that my front brake pads were at the service wear limit and needed replaced. With 90k miles on the pads, I thought that was probably a true account. What I didn't like though was the $450 estimate to replace the pads and install new rotors. They said the rotors were warped and burned and could not be turned.

I politely informed them that I would consider their offer and get back to them. I didn't buy the "burnt and warped" rotors story, the brake pedal never had any pulsation to it, was nice and smooth. I was going to have my local independent garage service the front brakes until i got the monthly Toyota dealer service coupon in the mail that advertised a front brake special for $179.00 which included new pads, turning the rotors, labor and shop fee's.

I was curious to find out what the dealer "experts" thought of the warped/burned rotors so I booked an appointment for 8:00 a.m. I presented the coupon to the service order writer as i pulled into the bay. He calmly stated that he could honor the price but that the pads would be generic / low end quality and would squeal and not last very long. I could get OEM Toyota pads for a $50 upgrade and they would be just like the originals. I expressed disappointment over this classic "bait and switch" coupon, he kinda apologized but said they had to do that to compete with the national brake service outlets (and said they use the lowest quality pads also at their low end prices).

Since I was already there and wanted to get their opinion on the rotors, I opted for the upcharge only if they inspected the rotors and found them to be able to be turned (and not replaced). He added that to the service notes and 2 hours later I was out the door for around $230. The tech said the rotors were in good shape, never turned before and were true and straight.

P.S. I had the brake fluid flushed and replaced 6 months ago at my tire place for around $65 (with coupon).... I am kind of skeptical of these places doing work like that so I hung around outside the service bay door and chatted with the technician while he did the brake flush just to be sure it was really done....

I have never heard of ANY Toyota dealership using aftermarket parts. I think they still got you, the $50 was for nothing. If the rotors were in great shape and didn't need to be turned you effectively paid $230 for a pad slap? Dealers around here have them for $99 plus tax.

I have been to several Toyota dealership, that had parts deliveries from various autopart stores. They can use whatever parts they want for cash-payers. Rich owners that overpay at dealership should be smart enough to demand OE only parts. I have seen this at other brand dealerships too. The real question is if the dealer is honest enough to list the aftermarket parts on the receipt or notify owner of the chicom sourced garbage installed.

Franchise costs much money. You pay for that factory complaint/escalation process, the pretty showroom, the waiting room with tea and crumpets, wifi, shuttle service...

Never replace pads without cutting or replacing rotors. Pad slap = hack work

When I had the Toyota dealer service work done, I had asked the service manager to only complete the brake job if the rotors could be turned after inspection as I didn't want to pay the dealer for rotor replacements. The tech wrote up that the rotors were in satisfactory shape to be turned - so I had the OEM brake pad replacement and rotor machining work done for the $230.... They did not do a simple "pad slap" that left the rotors "as-is"...

I just replaced my Front brakes and rotors on my '11 HL at 65,000. I bought all OEM parts for about $170 and it took me about 2 hours to swap them in my driveway

It amazes me how much stealerships get... My dealer wanted to charge me $299 for new OEM pads and re-surfaced rotors..

I remember getting a full brake job done on my 1989 camry for $125,at my local Toyota dealer. That was early 90's.

I am servicing my front brakes with pads and rotors and rear pads. Toyota Highlander. I am very sceptical but my car was starting to screech and can't risk making the situation worse. My dad told me that I did need to get it done just by looking at the tires...he's good but at 75 years old I didn't want to make him work on my car.
So ive been sitting here at the dealer for almost 2 hours and they're charging me a total of $352 with labor and taxes. I hope that's right. Going to call Dad now.

ALL Service Advisors are paid on commission (even at independent shops). It's part of what keeps the doors open if they can "sell" services you may not think about. Dealers have VERY high over head because in most cases they are forced to hire union rate techs. I will say though our local Toyota dealer here in Rockford for almost ever service I have ever priced out is FAR cheaper than independent shops around here. Recently on my 2001 I had cam belt, idler and tensioner, all oil seals, water pump, oil and filter, accessory belts and full coolant flush done at dealer and I spent just over $1200. I priced this work at local independents (most using non Toyota parts and fluid) and they were all way closer to $2000. So I would hardly call my dealership a stealership. I get great service at fair prices for everything I have ever needed there

Yeah that’s highway robbery. Think how often they get away with it with unsuspecting customers. DIY if able I’ll say.

A friend of mine took his 2010 Highlander into his Toyota Dealer with 78K miles on it. The service adviser indicated that he need his brakes serviced. My friend showed me the quote that the dealer ship gave him. The recommended service was to resurface all four rotors, replace all four sets of brake pads and replace brake fluid. All of this for a grand total of $1060! WTF Toyota. Brake pads were $69 for each set, not to bad, but the brake fluid charge was $82, the turning of the rotors was $120, and the rest was labor. Same work using Toyota brake pads was less than $400 at a independent shop. Was told that Toyota service advisers work on commission. If that is so, they really tried to make some money on him.

So you valued your labor at $129 ($299-$170) for two hours of work. What is the labor rate at the dealership?

Just a few weeks ago I paid $350 at the dealer to have the front rotors resurfaced and the front brake pads replaced on my 2011 Highlander.
