Someone followed me on instagram but i didn t get a notification

If you make your Instagram account private, you need to approve people before they can follow you on the social network or see your posts.

You'll generally get an Instagram follow request notification on your smart phone or other device with Instagram installed, and you can go through each Instagram friend request and approve or deny it. If you're using Instagram for a business, you may want to make your account public so that potential customers can see your posts and follow you without delay. You can make a separate account for personal posts or more sensitive ones, if you prefer.

Private and Public Instagram Accounts

By default, an Instagram account is public when you set it up. Anyone can follow you and see your photo posts and comments on others' posts and stories – other than direct messages you send to other users.

If you prefer, you can make your Instagram account private. In that case, your posts will only be visible to your followers, and you can control who follows you. When someone attempts to follow you, you will receive a notification and can allow or disallow them to follow you and see your posts and stories. If you do nothing, they will not be able to follow you or see your content.

Limitations of Privacy Settings

You can also block users from seeing or commenting on your posts, even if you keep your account public. This can be a good compromise if you don't want particular people seeing your posts, although they'll still be able to see them if they use, say, a friend's account or open your Instagram page in a private browsing tab. People don't get notified when you block them, but they may be able to figure out that they can no longer easily come across your profile and posts.

Note that if you set up your Instagram account to share your photos to other social media services, such as Facebook or Twitter, your privacy settings may be different there, and more people may be able to see your posts. Even if your account is private, it's possible that people who don't follow you could see your posts if someone you do follow shares them, either by taking a screenshot or physically showing someone using their own account.

Approving a Follow Request

If someone requests to follow you, you'll likely get a request on your phone. If you want to see all of your outstanding follow requests, tap the "heart" button to see all your notifications within the Instagram app.

Tap a request, and tap the "Confirm" button to accept the person as a follower or "Delete" to cancel the follow request on Instagram. If you delete the request, the person can request to follow you again unless you explicitly block them. If you delete a request by mistake, ask the requester to follow you again.

Requesting to Follow Someone

If you go to the Instagram profile page of someone whose page is private and who you do not follow, you can tap a button to request to follow that person. Tap it again to cancel that request if the person has not yet accepted.

If you want to see a list of everyone you have requested to follow, visit: http://instagram.com/accounts/access_tool/current_follow_requests in your Web browser. Log in to Instagram if you're prompted to do so.

Going Private or Public

If you want to make your Instagram account private so that people must request to follow you, tap the profile button, which looks like a silhouette of a person. Then, tap the menu button, represented by three horizontal lines in the top right corner of the app. Tap "Settings."

Tap "Account Privacy," and use the toggle switch next to "Private Account" to make your account private. Your existing followers will still be able to see your posts, unless you block them. Use the toggle switch again if you later want to make your account public.

What is following?

Following someone on Twitter means:

  • You are subscribing to their Tweets as a follower
  • Their updates will appear in your Home timeline
  • That person is able to send you Direct Messages

What are followers?

Followers are people who receive your Tweets. If someone follows you:

  • They'll show up in your followers list
  • They'll see your Tweets in their Home timeline whenever they log in to Twitter
  • You can start a private conversation with them

How do I know who I'm following?

Tap or click on Following on your profile or home page to see who you've followed, displayed in a following list. You can unfollow accounts from that page if you don't want to follow them anymore.

How do I know who is following me?

The followers link on your profile page or home page will show you how many followers you have and who they are. By default, Twitter sends you an email to let you know when someone new follows you. Set up your email preferences to notify you when you have a new follower or to turn these notifications off.

Can locked accounts affect follower counts?

Yes. When accounts are locked, we remove them from follower counts across profiles globally. As a result, if an account that follows you is locked, the number of followers displayed on your profile may go down.

How do I get followers? Can I ask someone to follow me?

There is no way to send a request for other people to follow you on Twitter.

Avoid third-party applications that promise to get you a lot of followers, these apps usually violate our Terms of Service and may lead to account suspension.

The best way to gain friends and fans on Twitter is to engage with people, follow others whose Tweets are interesting or meaningful to you, and be an active part of the Twitter community by reading and posting high-quality information.

Can I restrict who follows me, or sees my updates?

Yes. You can protect your Tweets.

Protecting your Tweets means anyone who wants to follow you must submit a request for your approval. Only followers you approve can see your protected Tweets and your Tweets will not appear in search engine results.

How do I approve followers?

Once I start following someone, can I stop?

Yes. You can unfollow other accounts at any time. Twitter does not send a notification when you unfollow someone.

If you have requested to follow someone whose Tweets are protected, then change your mind, you can cancel to undo your follow request. (The Cancel button appears on their profile in the same place as the Follow button.)

I don't want a particular person to follow me. What should I do?

You can block that account from following you. They won't be able to follow you and you will see a blocked icon when you visit their profile. To unblock an account you've blocked, visit their profile and click or tap the block icon.

Your Tweets won't appear in their timeline, and if they visit your profile, they will not be able to see any of your Tweets.

Can I remove someone from following me instead of blocking them?

Yes, you can remove any account from following you. There are two ways to remove someone.

  • Followers list: Navigate to your followers list. Find the account you’d like to remove and tap or click on the more icon  to the right of the Follow button. Tap or click on Remove this follower. Confirm you want to remove the account by tapping or clicking on Remove.
  • Profile page: Navigate to the profile page of the account you wish to remove from following you. Tap or click on the more icon  and select Remove this follower. Confirm you want to remove the account by tapping or clicking on Remove.

Please note that removing a follower will not prevent someone from requesting to follow your account (if your Tweets are private) or following your account again (if your Tweets are public).

Note: Currently the functionality to remove an account from following you is available on web only.

Is following the same as friend-ing someone on other social networks?

No. Following on Twitter isn't mutual. Someone who thinks you're interesting can follow you, and you don't have to approve it or follow them back.

If you want to approve who follows your Tweets, protect your Tweets. The same rules apply—you can approve followers, but you don't have to follow them back.
