What is the distance from Miami Airport to the centre of Miami and Miami Beach?

The distance between the airport and the centre of Miami (Bayfront Park) is 12 kilometres / 7.5 miles. You need to take into account a travel time of 25 minutes in normal traffic. To the centre of Miami Beach (Lincoln Road Mall) you’ll need at least 30 minutes, the distance is 18 kilometres / 11.2 miles.

Metro to Miami

From the airport, you can take the Miami Mover to Miami Airport Station. The MIA Mover is a free shuttle train that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At Miami Airport Station, you can take the Metrorail (Orange Line, Miami-Dade Transit) to travel to the city centre. The metro runs between 05:00 hours and midnight, every 15 to 30 minutes in both directions. If you want to go to the centre of Miami, you either need to get off at metro station Government Center north of the Miami River or at metro station Brickell south of the Miami River. At both stations you have the option to change to the Metromover, which provides free access to all places in Downtown Miami. The total journey time from Miami Airport to the city centre is approximately 30 minutes.

A one-way ticket costs $ 2.25. You can also buy a ticket for 1 day or 7 days, for which you pay $ 5.65 or $ 29.25. A travel pass for one or multiple days can be used for the metro and bus in Miami-Dade County. It is not possible to pay with coins or banknotes, you either need a paper EASY Ticket (valid for 60 days) or a plastic EASY Card (valid for 20 years, price: $ 2.00). These tickets can be topped up with money or a day pass, you cannot share the tickets with others. The advantage is that you can transfer for free from metro to metro or from bus to bus. Bus to Miami Beach

If you want to go to Miami Beach, it is better to choose the bus. Every 20 to 30 minutes the Miami Beach Airport Express (Metrobus Route 150) departs to and from Miami Beach, all days of the week. For this express bus service, the price is $ 2.25 for a one-way ticket. Tickets are available from the bus driver (exact change only), or you make use of an EASY Ticket or EASY Card. Within a time frame of 3 hours, you can change to other buses free of charge. Just like the metros, the buses depart from Miami Airport Station, a ride with the MIA Mover takes no more than a few minutes. The express buses run between 06:00 hours and 23:40 hours. The bus makes several stops in Miami Beach between 41st Street (Mid-Beach) and the final stop South Point Drive (South Beach). Stops on this route include the following streets: Indian Creek Drive, Collins Avenue and on the corner of Washington Avenue and Lincoln Road. Travel time with the Miami Beach Airport Express is 40 to 60 minutes, depending on where you need to be. Buses can be crowded at times, that means there are no free seats, and you probably won’t be able to store your baggage in the luggage racks. Train to Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach

From Miami Airport Station, accessible with the MIA Mover, you can travel to Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. You can take the train, the service is called Tri-Rail. Hialeah Market Station and Metrorail Transfer Station in the east of Hialeah can be reached in 5 to 10 minutes. In terms of population, Hialeah is the sixth-largest city of Florida, after Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Orlando and St. Petersburg.
