I bake these at 350 for 8 minutes and they are perfect. I personally believe 375 F degrees is too high for a cookie. Also note that one 12 oz package of chocolate chips is perfect.

  3. so is it 1 cup of chips or 2?? thats a very wide variance.

Wow! If I could give these more than 5 stars, I would! These are by far the best Tollhouse cookies I've ever made. I didn't have 'oatmeal' in the house and used Quaker Quick Oats instead and they came out perfect. Hot from the oven....is there anything better?!

This is a little late to tell you, regarding the cookies, but in our very old recipe it says to dissolve the baking soda in the hot water, then add to the egg, shortening, sugar and vanilla, creamed mixture. I was wondering how many it makes, but it is probably about 2 1/2 to 3 dozen cookies.

Why do Toll House cookies get hard?

Overworking the dough. The more you mix and work the dough after adding the flour, the more gluten is formed, which can result in cookies that are tough and hard. → Follow this tip: After adding the flour, mix just until you see no more visible flour.
