The 2022 SWAC men's basketball tournament will tip off Wednesday at Birmingham's Bartow Arena. With eight teams vying for the conference's bid to the NCAA Tournament, there will be plenty of action throughout the week.

Quarterfinals

Game 1: No. 2 seed Texas Southern (15-12, 13-5 SWAC) vs. No. 7 Jackson State (11-18, 9-9); Wednesday, 2 p.m., ESPN+

Texas Southern is one of the most intriguing teams in the tournament, after beating Florida and keeping it close against NC State during the regular season. Whil e Jackson State split its two games against Texas Southern this season, TSU will be favored to win Wednesday. It would take a poor shooting night like the one it had on Jan. 17 to open the door for an upset.

Prediction: Texas Southern 67, Jackson State 63

Game 2: No. 1 Alcorn State (15-15, 14-4) vs. No. 8 Prairie View A&M (8-18, 8-10); Wednesday, 8:30 p.m., ESPN+

Prairie View was one of top-seeded Alcorn's four conference losses. Both of this season's matchups were high scoring, with the winning team getting at least 72 points each time. Alcorn has the edge on defense, where Prairie View is averaging nearly 77 points allowed per game.

Prediction: Alcorn State 76, Prairie View A&M 71

Game 3: No. 3 Southern (17-13, 12-6) vs. No. 6 Grambling (11-19, 9-9); Thursday, 2 p.m., ESPN+

Southern is the SWAC's top offense and 3-point shooting team. But it hasn't been able to figure out in-state rival Grambling, which swept the season series. Grambling scored a season-high 83 points on the Jaguars one game, then held Southern under 60 points in another. Make it three straight wins against Southern for Grambling.

Prediction: Grambling 72, Southern 69

Game 4: No. 4 Florida A&M (13-16, 11-7) vs. No. 5 Alabama A&M (11-17, 10-8); Thursday, 8:30 p.m., ESPN+

Florida A&M, a newcomer to the SWAC, has the conference's leading scorer in MJ Randolph, who is averaging 18.8 points per game. While he doesn't take many 3-pointers (11 makes on the season), he has been able to get to the free-throw line frequently. That should be key for the Rattlers, who are evenly matched with the Bulldogs.

Prediction: Florida A&M 68, Alabama A&M 61

Semifinals

Game 5: No. 2 Texas Southern vs. No. 6 Grambling; Friday, 2 p.m., ESPN+

Rebounding and defense, of which Texas Southern is ranked first and second, respectively, among SWAC teams, launches the Tigers into the championship game. Opponents are shooting just over 40% from the field against TSU.

Prediction: Texas Southern 69, Grambling 56

Game 6: No. 1 Alcorn vs. No. 4 Florida A&M; 8:30 p.m., Friday, ESPN+

Alcorn, which finished the regular season winning 10 of its last 12, keeps the momentum rolling into the SWAC title game. Second-chance points from offensive rebounds prove to be key and play to Alcorn's strength.

Prediction: Alcorn 65, Florida A&M 57

Championship

Game 7: No. 1 Alcorn vs. No. 2 Texas Southern; Saturday, 5 p.m., ESPNU

Alcorn completes a three-game season sweep against TSU. The Braves have found ways to win close games all season, including both victories over the Tigers, by three points or fewer.

Prediction: Alcorn 68, Texas Southern 67
