They're happy for him, they're sad he's leaving.

(At least that's the public version. When I quit with "mixed feelings" it was because I was conflicted on whether I should have done it sooner.)

It means either "I'm really glad that idiot Harry finally ****ed up enough to get fired, but I can't publicly say so, so my feelings are mixed", or "Harry is taking early retirement with a fat pension because he has the credit card reciepts from the 'conference' last year when the CFO used a company credit card to buy $5000 worth of underage hookers and internet Viagra. I'm so jealous I can hardly stand it. I can't publicly say that, so my feelings are mixed."

Mixed as in happy FOR him while sad that he's gone. Sounds pretty standard to me.

I used "it is with mixed feelings" when I left my last job as the opening for my resignation letter, and I meant it as "My feelings are a mixture of happiness to be leaving, and unrepentant joy that I won't have to deal with this company's BS any longer. Get bent." Of course, I didn't come out and SAY that, but hey, I didn't say WHAT feelings were mixed...

I can understand an employee stating' it is with mixed feelings...' in a resignation letter, but I guess I don't understand why management or whoever would state that when communicating to employees about someone's departure. Do I care if the boss/manager/whoever had mixed feelings? No.

If someone is going to resign around here, EVERYBODY knows about it in advance. With resignations, there is usually no 'it is with mixed feelings..'

If someone is fired, or decides in the heat of the moment that they quit, we just get an email that states, 'So-and-so is no longer with the company effective immediately.' Only once did we get an email that went beyond that spartan notification. it added "If so-and-so attempts to contact anyone within the company, please notify HR immediately.'

How do I announce my resignation?

Breathe easy, though: Here's how to announce your employee's departure in a few simple, tension-breaking steps..
Send an announcement email or hold a team meeting..
Be clear about what you're announcing..
Include the date of leave and any other important information..
Invite everyone to a goodbye event..
Show your gratitude..

What do mixed emotions mean?

Mixed emotions have been defined as affective experiences characterized by the co-activation of two emotions, usually opposite in valence (Larsen et al., 2001), like for example, feeling happy and sad.

How do you inform an employee of resignation email?

I am writing to inform you all that [employee name] is leaving the company on [departure date]. [Employee name] is departing to [describe their reason for leaving in at most 10 words if you have permission to do so; if not, do not write this sentence].

How do you say someone has left the company?

How to Tell Customers an Employee Has Left Your Company.
Let the client know as soon as possible. ... .
Know what you can lawfully say. ... .
Be strategic about your communication. ... .
Focus on the client's underlying concerns. ... .
Consider creating redundancies..
