For safety reasons, you need to have your vehicle outside of the garage to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning when you turn on your car in an enclosed space. When your car is parked outside of your garage, turn on your car’s ignition. You need it to be on because the HomeLink buttons of your car need power from your vehicle to work. 2. Make sure your garage door is unobstructedEnsure any children or pets are away from the garage door while programming because the garage door may open and close during the process. 3. Locate the Vehicle Control ButtonThe first thing you need to do is locate your HomeLink vehicle control buttons.
