How to change a liberty safe combination

Items you will need

  • Original lock combination

  • Lock change key

Open the gun safe using your original combination.

Dial in your original combination on the index changing mark, located at the 11:00 o'clock position of the mechanical lock. Make sure the third and final number in your combination sequence stops accurately on the index changing mark.

Insert the change key into the back of the lock. Turn the key to open up the wheels and prepare the lock for a new combination sequence.

Dial in your new combination on the index changing mark. Dial in the first number of your combination four times to the left. Dial in the second number of your combination three times to the right. Dial in the third number of your combination two times to the left. Make sure each number stops accurately on the index changing mark.

Remove the change key from the back of the lock. Test your new combination with the safe open to make sure your new combination works.

Tip

Pick a code that is easy for you remember, but difficult for other to guess. Enter the new code quickly but carefully to ensure you don't inadvertently enter a different code. Always keep the safe open when changing the combination.

Never give your new master code to anyone you don't want having access to the contents of your safe.

Owners of Liberty safes should be aware that only safes with electronic locks can be changed by the user. Safes with mechanical locks must be taken to an authorized locksmith.

Instructions

  1. Using the old master code open the safe door. Keep the door open while changing the combination so you can make sure your new combination works before closing and locking the safe.

  2. Begin by pressing SG_, which is the same as 74_, on your Liberty safe's electronic keypad.

  3. Immediately after pressing "SG*" enter the six digit master code for your safe, followed by the pound sign.

  4. Listen for the lock to electronically chirp five times. If you entered SG* and your master code correctly, you will five chirps in successions. If you entered incorrectly the lock will return an almost continuous tone, letting you know you have to repeat steps 1 and 2.

  5. Press 1, then * and then enter your desired new six digit master code, followed the pound sign.

  6. Listen for three electronic chirps, which signal a proper entry of a new master code. If you hear a continuous tone, you have made a mistake, you must start over again with Step 1.

  7. Enter your new master code again after hearing three chirps, and follow that pressing the # key.

  8. Listen for three more electronic chirps, signaling you have successfully changed your master code on your Liberty safe.

  9. Try the new combination before closing the safe to verify that it works.
