Apr 20, 2013 I want to carry four bikes so a roof mounted rack is not an option. My local dealer wants $393 (USD) for the trailer hitch and almost $600 for installation. Time to look for a third party hitch/installation and any recommendations are appreciated. I'm venting first and will now search this forum and local shops for a reasonable solution. Thanks, Ron Tonkin

You guys really get hosed in the US. Up here in Canada we have set install times and prices for OEM Accessories. I am allowed to charge 2.6 hours for installing a harness and hitch. That works out to be approx $285.00 Canadian. Joined Jan 5, 2013 · 117 Posts
Discussion Starter · #6 · Apr 22, 2013 I think the US dealerships have a lot of wiggle room. College Hills Honda has the hitch on sale for $245 USD. Also, the 2.6 hours you mentioned jumped out at me because the dealership took three hours to install the auto-dimming mirror my wife wanted. And an additional 10 minutes when they brought the car out with the trim not seated properly. I tell 'ya this
car has been (so far) an unending series of regrets. Joined Oct 22, 2012 · 101 Posts

My local Honda dealership quoted me an outrageous amount, as did my local non-dealership Honda specialist that I typically take my car to for maintenance. Who quoted me the lowest figure? Pep Boys. Normally I don't do business with them, but I might be making an exception this time. Joined Apr 21, 2013 · 36 Posts
College Hills Honda sell the hitch for $270 and the wiring harness for $133 plus shipping. I took a look at the installation instructions and it looks like there is a lot of work involved with installing the wiring harness including having to cut metal. Also lots of disassembly of body and trim parts. If the dealer follows the instructions it sure
seems like there is a lot of labor involved. Before I would use a third party (Pep Boys, U-Haul, etc) I would want to know exactly how they are going to install the necessary wiring. That's just me but I have seen some really botched wiring jobs from shops that do not have the knowledge or care to do things right. Of course a Honda dealer can mess it up as well but it should be under warranty so you have some protection. I think we would all appreciate hearing from anyone that had
the hitch and wiring installed in a 2012-13CR-V by a Honda dealer as well as any third party shop. Joined Apr 30, 2009 · 717 Posts
I paid $145 for a Curt 13119 Class 3 Receiver Hitch, and it compliments the 2012 model nicely. [EDIT]My apologies to crvownersclub forum owner and members, my bad, I failed to mention that the hitch was actually bought right here on this forum. I clicked through the etrailer link on the main crvownersclub.com forum. Just a shout out to the

Please send us photos of your completed installation. Email them to [email protected] Your photos may be featured online in our vehicle spotlight. I had Car Toys do the work. There were two mounting options, either remove the plastic cover under the car, or
cut holes through it...I opted for the later (since my understanding is the plastic cover under the car is designed to reduce noise. http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Honda/CR-V/2012/C13119.html?vehicleid=20121139125 Joined Apr 2, 2013 · 49 Posts

Very happy with the install and the look. Always nicer if the is a built in port, but what can you do with Honda and some of their idiotic ideas. As for picture, when my wife leaves it in the driveway long enough I will grab the camera. Plus Hidden has a $20/$30 rebate on right now. Joined Sep 26, 2012 · 23 Posts
Got mine from Amazon.com. Curt hitch for 2012 CRV ($138.00 including shipping). I installed it myself in my garage using instructions from E-Trailer.com on youtube which took me about 2 hrs. So all in all, I spent less than $150. As for the bike rack, I got a Yakima Double Down from Amazon (RacksforAll) good for 5 bikes which cost me around $165.00 all

Discussion Starter · #19 · May 12, 2013 I forgot to come back and post pics. I bought a Class II for the 2" receiver (I didn't want to use an adapter with the bike rack). The hitch came in late so UHaul knocked 10% off the whole thing. I also bought $5 of insurance where UHaul will replace the hitch (including labor) for reason.
