I was thrilled to learn that Neil Patrick Harris would be playing the role Hedwig in New York. I looked into going but between the price of the tickets, the airfare out to New York and not to mention hotel, it was going to be prohibitively expensive. So why not settle for the next best thing? I was not disappointed when I got the CD. The band was exceptional and NPH's vocals are awesome! The guitar playing is just sick (you can tell the guitars were cranked) and much heavier than I remember on the original soundtrack from the film. I recommend this product to anyone who is a fan of Hedwig and the Angry Inch... a must have! Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2014 NPH brings a different energy and vibe to Hedwig, which sets this far enough apart from the original movie soundtrack that it's worth having both. Gotta love the Pixies-esque swagger he brings to a newly rockin' Sugar Daddy, his soulful Origin of Love, and the subtle cheesiness he gives Tommy Gnosis in Tommy's Wicked Little Town. Also, this is the first recording of Long, Long Grift that makes the song feel like a worthy part of the show. Man, that girl can sing! I'd say if you're a Hedwig fan, you'd want to start with the movie soundtrack, but this is a worthy addition to the library. Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2020 Disc is flawless. Music is excellent. However, upon opening packaging, pieces of plastic fell out and on trying to open front cover of disc, front door came off where lower left corner of door hinge was shattered. Spindle which held disc in place had most of the plastic pins missing, so nothing holds the disc in place inside the case. A long crack runs along the front of the cover, as well as a small crack on the back of the cover, but these cracks are relatively harmless. I love the music but the case is useless to keep the disc in, without the front cover. Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2017 I am the first to express how unfair it is to compare one piece of artwork against another and deem one as superior. And these words are being written by someone for whom Hedwig was a profound influence in the late 1990s, so my allegiance to the original cast album (which featured John Cameron Mitchell, Miriam Shor and Cheater), may well be clouding my judgment when I break this newer model down. That said, I listened to this particular recording once and knew that I didn't need it. Neil Patrick Harris' voice neither invites nor endears. The Hedwig vocal tracks here are flat and colorless. Lena Hall as Yitzhak sounds lovely and has me wishing the recording laid down HER vocals as the titular character. But the only track that lends itself to repeat playability for me is "Sugar Daddy" with its heavily revised orchestrations in tow. I would never encourage anyone to purchase this album when its predecessor offers the vitality, the anguish, and the hard-rock-meets-musical-theatre that any Hedwig production should offer. Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2014 Let me first to say BRAVO! Bravo to the whole team but particularly to Lena Hall. She transformed for the role and brought the theater to tears with her brief rendition of "I Will Always Love You". The show was AMAZING and you felt the dedication and love NPH put into the character. One of the best theatrical experiences of my life. The recording is a fun way to remember it all. I am praying someone like HBO tapes this show before the curtain falls forever so a wider audience can enjoy. Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2019 The Hedwig movie was fantastic. Reviews of the NPH stage show were great. The singing on this album is ... uninspired. Its all on-key and technically sound, but it doesn't have any passion. Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2015 What \can I say.. this show has changed my life. This soundtrack is amazing in every way! Neil's voice is so smooth and he carries the notes so well, but also provides the rock and roll edge that IS Hedwig. The music is so beautiful that no matter how many times I listen to these songs, the notes touch my soul like it was the first time. Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2014 Neil Patrick harris is amazing! I first fell in love with Hedwig on the tony's when he song Sugar daddy live! and I have to say the live version is a faster speed better then the prerecorded one. but I LOVE the soundtrack ! I haven't deleted a single song from the album off my ipod yet! and I love dancing to Sugar daddy! all day long! so glad he won a tony! Top reviews from other countries5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it. Personalmente non conosco i protagonisti del contenuto del vinile :-) ma mi è bastato vedere illuminarsi gli occhi di chi ha ricevuto il regalo (che sapevo desiderava tanto). Quindi bene cosi..... amazon perfetta come sempre. |
