Error stabilisation control vw car wont start

  • #1

Went to get coffee this morning.

When I got back in the car to drive home I started the car and it failed to turn over.

There was a smell of burning electronics and the dash cluster was fully lit. The MFD then displayed Fault Stabilization Control (ESC) and a wrench appeared over the gear selector section of the MFD.

I am currently waiting on VW roadside assistance to tow me back to VW Alexandria.

The sad thing about this experience other than this being a new car is that I was scheduled for K04 install at NGP tomorrow morning

I guess that throws a 'wrench' in those plans.

Well, simpler to reschedule the appointment then to have to deal with the potential problems getting warranty service *AFTER* the turbo upgrade (which shouldn't happen, but you never know how the dealer may see things)

Got an update from VW Alexandria today. The ECM is fried. The service adviser was not specific as to what caused it. I did ask if it had anything to do with the climate knob fix I got two Friday's ago but he said no.

The good thing is that the new ECM is covered under my VW warranty.

Watch the tuner closely the next time they open your ECU and make sure it is resealed properly without too much silicone..

Wow, get yours towed in, ECU diagnosed and replaced all in a day. It is now been a week that my car has been sitting at the VW dealer awaiting a water pump replacement.

sorry, just had to vent

ECM will be replaced by Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how soon Alexandria VW can get a new one in.

In the meantime, I am riding around in their service loaner, a 2012 Jetta base.

If their service turnaround isn't testimony enough, Alexandria VW is an awesome dealership for sales and service.

This is happening to me right now! Were you stage 1 when this happened? If so, were you able to get it back to stock mode before taking it to the dealer? Please let me know, thanks!

Yep I was stage 1 and no I didn't put the ECU back into stock mode.

I knew the risks of tuning and Alexandria VW knew I was tuned since I showed up to my 3 month courtesy check flashed (* on VIN) and with a burbly RAI Downpipe.

So what happened? Did you come out of pocket for the ECM? NGP damaged mine during install and said they would replace it if needed. Ahhhh!

My ECU issue did not happen until 3+ months after getting stage 1 tuned at NGP and getting my DP installed at RAI. My car was only stock for about 1 month after buying it.

Since it was three months after tuning (4+ months of ownership), neither NGP nor RAI had anything to do with my ECU issues.

Also, my ECU fried about two weeks after my courtesy check at Alexandria VW, where they gave me a clean bill of health. So they ended up replacing the ECU under warranty.

dude, count ur blessing that thi happened BEFORE K04. U would have had no warranty support if it happened after K04; That was a close one.

With this much luck, I'd buy a lottery ticket right now.

Why will my Volkswagen not start?

One of the most common reasons a car won't start is a problem with the battery. In many cases, the battery isn't supplying enough power to the starter system. The engine may crank slowly but not start. Often the lights on the dashboard won't light up.

What is VW electronic stability control?

Helps prevent loss of control in curves and emergency steering maneuvers by stabilizing your car when it begins to veer off your intended path. What It Does: Works automatically to help the driver maintain control of the car during hard steering maneuvers.

What is Stabilisation control?
