Davinci resolve cant drag clip into timeline

  • Davinci resolve cant drag clip into timeline

When I go to drag a video clip (mp4) from my media pool to my timeline, it brings across the audio but the video doesn’t come with it.

    Please help 🙂

FYI I’m using 17beta2 which I just installed (though the issue may also have present in the previous 17 beta1)

I am using Resolve 17 beta 2 Studio and have not had that problem. For me, dragging clips to the timeline is working normally.

Sorry for the late reply, it seemed to just start working again for no evident reason. But all good I’ve had no problem since. Cheers

I always blame that sort of thing on Cyber Gremlins, but great that all is working well now.

Your timeline may have become corrupted. You can lasso everything on the timeline and copy to the clipboard. Then create a new empty timeline and paste the clipboard contents into the new timeline. If you can add content to the new timeline, then problem solved. Otherwise something else is wrong. I have had the same problem numerous times, and this is always the first thing I try, as it usually works.

Davinci resolve cant drag clip into timeline
Thu Dec 17, 2020 3:23 am

Hi,

I upgraded to Resolve 17 b5 this morning. seeing a really odd behaviour.
I have an imported graphic I want to use in a timeline, but I can no longer drag and drop items from the bins into my timeline. The function seems to work, but when I release, the image doesn't appear.

It's just png images that I'm trying to overlay, which I've created in finder and dragged into my image bins that won't appear in this timeline.

I can add them into a blank timeline, copy them and then switch to my working timeline and paste them, then I can use them okay. I just can't drag and drop directly into this timeline.

Is anyone else seeing this behaviour in Resolve?

Thanks

Jason

If it is a single timeline, you may want to check the obvious candidates -
Are the timeline tracks locked? Do you have your target track setup ok? Can you edit your clips? Is position lock switched on? If it is a collaboraiton project, is the timeline opened in read-only mode?

Hi Shrinivas

Yes, I've checked that. No tracks are locked (it is a single timeline, not a collaboration project). I can edit clips and change them, I can just no longer drag and drop png image inserts onto a timeline (but I can drag and drop other items).

The only thing I wasn't sure about from your list was "position lock being switched on?". Where can I find the setting to check that?

Thanks

Jason

It's on the toolbar above the timeline:

Position Lock next to Link.png (19.03 KiB) Viewed 629 times

Enabling it (like above) shows these instead of lock on the track:

Tracks showing Pos Lock and Disabled Targets.png (56.89 KiB) Viewed 629 times

Note that in addition to position lock these have target tracks disabled too (grey) - instead of orange. I didn't see a mention of these in your response.

Hi.

No, all position locks are off, all tracks are unlocked, but I cannot drag and drop images onto this timeline.
I can send you a screen shot of a video of what's happening if you've got a file transfer address (it'll be too big to post up here).

I can edit and paste into the tracks with other items (like title inserts), so I know the tracks aren't locked.
On other timelines, I can drag and drop this content in, it's just the main one I've been editing where the only way I can get it into the timeline to work with is to drop onto an empty timeline, cut it (command-x) and go to my target timeline and paste (command-v). Then it appears in the timeline and I can work with it okay.

It's very, very odd.

Thanks

Jason

Bizarrely, this is now working again. I've made no changes to settings at all, just started allowing drag/drop.

If it recurs, I'll try and identify any steps beforehand, but for now, random transient error by the looks of it.

May or may not be related to something the pilot did, but I can't recall doing anything that would have changed a setting. It definitely wasn't the lock functionality, as other edits could be made. Just png drag and drop that failed to drop when released. But now works again.

Thanks for your time on it anyway.
