and vegetarian options, and they’re super careful in the kitchen. (Most of the menu is inherently gluten free anyway.) They even do brunch on weekends! BRGR Bar As you might have guessed, BRGR Bar serves burgers; great burgers.
But you might not have guessed that they also offer a vegan Caesar salad with nut-based cheese, and vegan jackfruit tacos. All burgers can be made on GF buns, and the milkshakes are stellar. The fryers are NOT dedicated gluten free, but this is a fun place with good drinks and a fun vibe. Cava Tapas & Wine Bar You can never go wrong with tapas and wine, which is exactly what Cava serves. Most of the menu is inherently gluten free, but be sure to ask about specifics. There’s very little gluten used in the kitchen, making Cava a celiac fave. The Friendly Toast The Friendly Toast has multiple locations across New England, with more in the works. All locations offer an expansive menu and breakfast all day, with loads of gluten-free options prepared separately. Pancakes, bowls, omelettes, sandwiches and more are available – be sure to inform your server of your dietary needs. The Goods Market & Cafe The Goods is a locally owned market & cafe offering breakfast and lunch, with breakfast served all day. Nearly everything on the menu can be made gluten free, from breakfast sandwiches to stir fries, bowls, sandwiches, salads and more. GF bagels, wraps and bread available. Kids menu as well. Green Elephant Green Elephant serves up Asian-inspired vegetarian cuisine. The Kitchen The Kitchen is the perfect spot for sandwiches, burgers, and pasta. La Maison Navarre offers various kinds of gluten-free buckwheat crepes, both savory and sweet, and they can prepare them safely. They also make the best GF macarons around, along with soups, salads & a wine and cheese shop. Go for the food and the experience! Lexi’s Joint Need takeout or a quick meal? Head to Lexi’s. They can put any of their burgers on a GF bun, including black bean burgers for non-meat eaters. Order a specialty burger or build your own, with a chicken option as well. They also have dedicated fryers for fries, although their fried fish is NOT gluten free. Try a shake for dessert, but order it without the cookies. This is a hot spot for GF and non-GF folks alike. Martingdale Wharf Martingdale Wharf kinda has it all. Nearly the entire menu is clearly marked with GF options, from dedicated gluten-free fryers for seafood , wings, and truffle fries, to Vietnamese spring rolls. All of the sides are gluten free, there’s a raw bar, plenty of amazing seafood entrees, sandwiches and more, and they’re super careful in the kitchen. Moxy Moxy is a self-described American Tapas Restaurant, which means that the bulk of the menu is inherently gluten free. There’s another location in Epping, NH. River House River House is our number one choice for gluten-free dining in Portsmouth. The menu is chock-full of GF labels, from fried seafood, burgers, fried chicken, fried cauliflower, lobster rolls, sandwiches and more. They also carry amazing desserts from NH-based Gluten-Free Territory! StreetFood 360 The menu at StreetFood is full of street food from all over the globe, with tons of GF options. Bibimbap, tacos, empanadas, Thai ribs, along with salads, rice noodle bowls, burgers, and so much more. The Soupery The Soupery sells lots and lots of soup. Every day they offer quite a few GF options, some vegetarian and vegan as well. They also have popsicles and smoothies. Surf Surf serves great seafood. The menu is clearly marked, and much of it can be prepared gluten free. From entrees like flash fried shrimp to sushi, raw bar, seafood stew and lobster, there are plenty of safe offerings to choose from. They even have a kids menu. Thirsty Moose Tap House We love a separate GF menu, and Thirsty Moose has a biggie. They’ve got GF/vegan pizza dough, vegan cheese, nachos, grilled chicken wings, burgers, sandwiches, and even entrees. Family friendly. FYI – Thirsty Moose has multiple locations in NH. Tuckers Breakfast and Lunch If you want an incredible GF breakfast or lunch and feel like a 20 minute drive outside of Portsmouth, head to Tucker’s in Dover. With 6 locations in New Hampshire, Tucker’s has a huge GF breakfast & lunch menu, dedicated fryers, and are super careful in the kitchen. Tuscan Kitchen Tuscan Kitchen has 5 locations in MA and NH, and they all have separate GF lunch and dinner menus. Ravioli and other pasta dishes are available, as well as plenty of seafood, beef and chicken dishes. These guys know what they’re doing in the kitchen! Vida Cantina Vida Cantina is an excellent choice for Mexican in Portsmouth. The menu is super-clearly labeled with GF, vegan, and vegetarian options. The taco choices are really unique, including shrimp, fried avocado, Korean BBQ tempeh and more. There are also enchiladas and entrees. Wicked Mini Cafe Wicked Mini Cafe has so many great gluten-free options.
