Is there such a thing as a shielded Rca cable that does what it promises and if so, what should I look out for in such a cable? I've seen some subwoofer cables but the shielding is sometimes connected to one end, sometimes to none, single shielded or double shielded. My speakers are powered but have only rca inputs. I've used a generec thin rca cable which works fine; but I
noticed some background noise/hum recently, which increases when the cable comes close to an extension cord. Which is the reason for asking: Are there any good shielded rca cables you can recommend?
Hard to go wrong with anything using coax, like RG-59.
For short RCA analog cables, any coax with a braided shield will be good.

Of course BJC, but for a bit cheaper I also like Ghent Audios Choseal 4N-OFC RCA or Canare L-4E6S Star Quad. Star Quad is great for balanced, but not so good for RCA. Apart from that there's a
whole thread about this already.
Of course BJC (98% coverage), but for a bit cheaper I also like Ghent Audios Choseal 4N-OFC RCA (99.9% coverage). Do they have real specs?
I just ordered some RG-59. Thanks everyone! LTigMajor Contributor
Hard to go wrong with anything using coax, like RG-59. Yep, and the bonus with RG59 is that you can use for SPDIF Coax as well.
WTH people, have you not heard of XLR?!
WTH people, have you not heard of XLR?! Yes, I know. It was before I joined the asr forum that I bought the speakers. They sound great but don't have xlr, only rca and b&o's own powerlink based on a din cable. Last edited: Jun 1, 2021 SlayerAddicted to Fun and Learning
Okey, my bad, sorry for the language. Shielding usually helps against radio interference in long cable runs, it should do anything to mains hum. I've run
speaker leads tied to power cords without problems.

Do shielded RCA cables make a difference? In cables like RCA, the more shielding they have or the better the isolation technique used, the more it will reject noise, thus your audio will be cleaner. Connectivity – The tips of the cable, the ones that make the connection with your audio equipment's output an input make a huge difference.
Do RCA cables need to be shielded?Shielding is an essential part of a proper RCA audio cable. It is true that shielded cable has higher total cable capacitance than otherwise similar unshielded cable, but that's the price you have to pay for the noise free sound. The cable capacitance can affect the sound going through the cable.
Do RCA cables make a difference in car audio?Only if they're broken, or unusually susceptible to noise. Cables can do nothing to "increase" sound quality, but in some rare cases they can be designed so poorly that they pick up noise, or make poor connections.
