Best co op games on game pass

We've gathered the most interesting Game Pass co-op games, where teamwork makes the dream work.

Single-player games are terrific, although playing on your own can get boring sometimes. There are times when it’s better to share a struggle over a tricky level with other players. In this case, the possibilities are endless. Numerous multiplayer modes allow you to experience a PC title with people from (almost) all over the world. Sounds cool, but is there anything better than sitting on the same couch and playing via the good old split screen?

Now that we’ve covered various genres, it’s time to talk about the top co-op games on PC Game Pass! Luckily for you and your forever Player 2, Microsoft’s subscription service is full of titles to try out.

We've prepared an article discussing several popular installments you can find on GP to narrow the selection down to the finest examples. All left is to grab a couple of gamepads (or pick a keyboard & gamepad combo) and start the session! Here are our co-op recommendations:

7 Days to Die

You could say 7 Days to Die is a Minecraft equivalent for horror fans. It’s funny how accurate this statement is. The title is a typical post-apocalyptic survival simulator in which you face hordes of undead continuously charging at your fortress. The game doesn’t support split screen on PC, but nothing’s stopping you from playing online 😉

Ultimate Doom

Fine wine is not the only thing that ages gracefully. The DOOM series is another great example! It can be run on a calculator, ATM, smart bulb, LEGO bricks, and many other things. Still, it’s a fantastic shooter and a solid cooperation title for GP users. Walking through the claustrophobic rooms and defeating monsters coming at you from everywhere is still an incredibly satisfying thing to do.

A Way Out

Halelight’s debut is what you need for an outstanding co op game to have in a nutshell. There’s lots of action, a tangible narration, charismatic characters, and dozens of moments requiring precise teamwork. As convicts, players will have to show their creativity and display their "run & gun" abilities to escape the prison and show their persecutors who’s boss.

Naturally, it’s not all about the action. You will have an opportunity to play the banjo or grab a horseshoe and throw it for fun. It may take away the immersion a little, yet you’re still having lots of fun.

Gears 5

The Gears of War series is one of the flagship Xbox Game Studios creations. These TPS titles were marketed as co-op games from the very beginning. Even though you can have a solo playthrough (AI isn’t too bad here), playing along with a mate is way more exciting.

The latest entry in the franchise, Gears 5, took away the corridor-like levels and introduced us to a semi-open world without bringing changes to the base formula. It’s an absolute must-have for the franchise fans and a pretty solid recommendation for those unfamiliar with it.

Goat Simulator

Is a crazy goat wreaking havoc sounds like trouble? Add a second one to make it double. The goal of this game is to explore, destroy and, above anything else, have fun. Coffee Stain Studios gave us a title full of bugs. However, many were intentional, so the gameplay looked even more absurd. If carefree couch gaming is your go-to entertainment after a tough day, Goat Simulator is one of the best co-op games on PC Game Pass.

If you’re looking for similar experiences, feel free to read our article about the best couch / local co-op games. Some titles may repeat, but you will find at least a couple more to play!

Halo Master Chief Collection

It’s a pack of four main titles of the Halo series, plus Halo 3: ODS and Halo: Reach! Each FPS that comes in the collection is perfect for co-op enthusiasts. You will need 40 hours (or even more) to finish all of the campaigns. Perfect for the long summer days. 😊 Sadly, you won’t be able to enjoy Halo: Infinite in the local co-op for now. As the rumors go, however, the players will get the chance after the third Season’s premiere.

Human Fall Flat

Sitting in front of the same screen with a friend and seeing the wonders created by this game’s engine is a recipe for a great house party. Don’t forget to add various levels that test your cooperation skills and puzzles that reward you for perceptivity and creative thinking to the mixture! The title by No Brakes Games lets you fulfill some of the most incredible ideas, even if they sound a bit weird. As practice shows, these turn out to be some of the best.

It Takes Two

You can see where the developers went with the name. Speaking of PC Game Pass co-op games, we couldn’t forget to mention this masterpiece by the Hazelight studio. Dynamic, ever-changing mechanics, touching and adorable story followed by dozens of funny (and a bit frustrating at times) situations make for a phenomenal adventure truly worth experiencing.

Minecraft Dungeons

If the regular Minecraft isn’t your cup of tea, how about a hack’n’slash set in the same universe? Unlike the original, you won’t have to gather resources or build anything here. The only thing that’s left is pure action. The gameplay allows up to 4 players to wander through multiple locations in search of the best loot you can find.

Overcooked! 2

Here’s a fun gaming adventure recipe: plenty of cooking, a dash of chaos, and a pinch of the co op! After mixing the ingredients nicely, we have baked ourselves Overcooked! 2. It’s one of these rare occasions when a local co-op game is neat but also quite risky to play with others. People say relationships end after some sessions. 😃 Are you confident that your friendships are too strong to end like that? Then stop reading and start playing!

Pac-Man Museum+

How about we go back in time? Retro gaming is unimaginable without Pac-Man Museum+. The collection features 14 titles in total, but we would like to focus on two that can be played with other people – Pac-Man Arrangement and Pac-Man 256. Going old-school is often the best idea for get-togethers: competing against friends with the number of ghosts can turn out to be more entertaining than some of the latest releases.

Sea of Thieves

Being a part of a pirate crew is a dream many of us shared back in the days (or still secretly look at an old treasure map we drew as children). Sea of Thieves makes your dream come true, and you can invite up to three friends onboard! Aside from sailing for days and sea battles, you will get to drink some undisclosed, probably-non-alcohol-free beverages and sing shanties. What’s there not to like?

Spelunky 2

Spelunky 2 is perfectly fine to play on your own. Sometimes, it can be a bit irritating nonetheless. That's why you can try struggling with it with someone else, which is proven effective. Then, even if you lose, you won’t feel awful about it.

The Mossmouth studio’s masterpiece is a solid instance of a local co-op game that gets even better when a friend joins. Be wary, though: friendly fire is present. If you’re not sure your friendship can withstand this ultimate test, think twice. 😉

Stardew Valley

Want something more casual? Here you go! This pixel-art farm simulator will let you relax after a rough day. It's also a fantastic "icebreaker" for someone unfamiliar with video games.

Up to 4 farmers can start families and live happily on the farm. You will also have to make decisions together (e.g., what your role at a festival will be). Happy farming!

The Ascent

The Ascent blends RPG mechanics with a crazy isometric shooter and presents this combo in a neon, cyberpunk setting. You won’t have any problems beating the title by yourself, but exploring some of the corners of its dystopian world is simply better. Moreover, it's safer, especially when a tank with the right abilities stands next to your sniper. Matching and complementing each others' skills is a key to victory.
