Lyrics

Orange: Yeah Yea-heh Yeahaah Yeah-yeah yahh...

7 A.M. Wakin’ up in the kitchen

It’s Fry-day, Fry-day,

Goin’ to T.G.I. Fry-days,

Everybody’s lookin’ for a napkin, napkin

Fry-day, Fry-day,

Everybody’s lookin’ for a napkin napkin

A Brief History of the Waking Up in the Morning Meme on TikTok

While the song itself far precedes TikTok, there’s no doubt that TikTok itself is responsible for the rapid rise of this (actually quite dated) song.

The “original sound” that is being used for all the ‘Waking up in the morning’ videos was posted on TikTok on January 11 here, and was actually originally posted as a Trump-related joke.

The video has since garnered over 834,0000 likes and counting… but its TikTok popularity wouldn’t skyrocket for another two months.

One of the first videos to go mega-viral with this audio was posted on March 7 here, and shows the hilarious moment a fan met Ariana Grande while crying after a fight with his dad. At the time of writing, this video has almost 20 million views.

But that’s only one of many viral hits part of the ‘Waking up in the morning, thinking about so many things’ meme on TikTok!

In fact, the “Waking Up in the Morning” original sound (not even including reposts or copies) has generated over 250,000 videos so far, making it one of the year’s biggest TikTok trends, next to the oh so catchy Fortnite American Boy parody.

Even Will Smith got involved! You can see his take on the Waking Up in the Morning trend here.

So Where is the Original ‘Waking Up in the Morning, Thinking About So Many Things’ Song from?

Here’s the craziest part about the viral success of this song – it’s actually 10 years old!

The “Waking Up in the Morning” song made famous by TikTok was actually from an episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey – specifically Season 3, Episode 16.

The singer of the song is none other than Gia Giudice, who wrote the song all by herself about family drama involving her mom and uncle.

The video “Gia’s sad song” (an alternative name for the ‘Waking Up in the Morning’ TikTok song) was posted on YouTube on October 7, 2011, and you can watch it here.

As you can see, the full thing is actually longer than what’s shown on TikTok, and is pretty sad to watch actually…

As is said in the video “that was rough, Gia’s hurting – she knows what’s going on,” followed by “hopefully this can wake everybody up”.

Nonetheless, Gia seems to be thriving now, and we got a bunch of excellent memes out of it, so thank you Gia. We have all indeed woken up…. in the morning…… thinking about so many things.

Waking up in the morning, thinking about so many things
I just wish things would get better, I’m trying to get rid of them
But nothing seems to stay the same

Woke up in the morning, doing my hair make-up, getting my clothes on
Walking into school thinking of what is going to happen next
Oh whoa

Things are just caught up in my mind just cannot get rid of them
I ain’t worrying and worrying I just cannot get rid of this
I cannot take chances it is just too much

Waking up in the morning going into school
Worrying and worrying it is just too much
Yeah yeah yeah
