The Jeep Grand Cherokee was introduced in 1993 to compete with larger sport utility vehicles being offered by other American carmakers. Unlike the base Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee was available with V-8 power. The Grand Cherokee also had more interior room and a smoother ride than the regular Cherokee, which was dropped after the 2001 model year. The Grand Cherokee was the first Jeep vehicle to carry the parent company’s “Chrysler” nameplate. As of 2010, the Grand Cherokee is still part of Jeeps’ lineup. The front bumper of Grand Cherokees consists of a metal beam that is part of the vehicle’s structure that is covered with a plastic fascia designed to absorb small impacts without damage. The first step of replacing a damaged front bumper is to remove the old one.

Step 1

Open the hood. Remove the three screws that attach the top of the grille to the radiator support with a Philips screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction. Remove the three snap fasteners that attach the lower part of the grill to the front bumper by prying them out with a flat blade screwdriver. Pull the grill from its mounting and place it, the screws, and fasteners aside.

Step 2

Remove the three snap fasteners from the bottom edge of the front bumper by prying them out with a flat blade screwdriver. Place the fasteners aside.

Step 3

Remove three snap fasteners from the leading edge of each wheel lip opening with a flat-blade screwdriver. Place the fasteners aside.

Step 4

Unhook the mounting holes in the top of the bumper from the hooks under each front turn signal and in front of each front wheel. Use a helper if necessary and lower the bumper assembly from the vehicle.
