    • Measures and relays information on vehicle speed
    • Helps your engine adapt to different speeds for maximum efficiency
    • Can wear out over time or be damaged by collisions, water, or debris

The Vehicle Speed Sensor in your INFINITI does precisely what its name indicates: senses how fast your vehicle is moving. This component measures transaxle speed, wheel speed, or transmission speed, and transmits the information to the engine. The computer system within the engine uses this real-time data to adjust mechanical operations as you drive, like fuel-to-air ratio and ignition timing.

When a speed sensor goes bad in your vehicle, you may notice inconsistent readings from the speedometer or sudden changes in your transmission. Your check engine light could also turn on, and your cruise control feature might cut off quickly or stop working altogether. In older vehicles, the Vehicle Speed Sensor may break down simply from wear and tear over time. Sometimes, other external factors — like damage from moisture or an impact during a collision — can damage your Vehicle Speed Sensor beyond repair.

Do you see signs that your Vehicle Speed Sensor might be causing problems? Trust the pros at your local INFINITI dealer for diagnostic testing and inspection, and order your replacement Vehicle Speed Sensor right from the source: Genuine INFINITI Parts. All OEM part purchases are backed by our exclusive 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty, so why shop anywhere else for a new Vehicle Speed Sensor? The sensor listed here, part number 319351XJ0D, will work for multiple INFINITI vehicles. Check the What This Fits tab for more fitment information.

Hello everyone. My 15 Q50a started having this issue during our roadtrip from houston to austin. After stopping for a quick break, I realized the high rpm when going above 40 mph and that the car was not shifting past 2nd gear.

Engine light came on and the only error code that came up was P0720. From my research it looks like the output speed sensor is the issue and I ordered part# 31935-1xj0d directly from my local nissan dealership.

I ham having trouble locating where the this harness is that I need to replace. Looking at youtube videos, it looks like for most cars, this part is accessible by removing the front driver side tire. Is this also correct for 2015 Q50?

Please share any manual diagram / information on how to replace the output speed sensor, thank you!

    The P0720 DTC means either:

    • The vehicle speed detected by the output speed sensor is 5 km/h (3 MPH) or less when the vehicle speed transmitted from the combination meter to TCM is 20 km/h (12 MPH) or more. (Only when starts after the ignition switch is turned ON.)

    • The vehicle speed transmitted from the combination meter to TCM does not decrease despite the 36 km/h (23 MPH) or more of deceleration in vehicle speed detected by the output speed sensor. when the vehicle speed detected by the output speed sensor is 36 km/h (23 MPH) or more and the vehicle speed transmitted from the combination meter to TCM is 24 km/h (15 MPH) or more.

In either case, the TCM goes into Fail-Safe mode and that's why your transmission won't shift past 3rd gear. I gather from your post that you have had the output speed sensor changed and the problem still is happening.

It could also be a harness/connector problem where the sensor circuit (not the sensor) is open or shorted. If it isn't a bad output speed sensor or a faulty harness or connector, then you may be looking at replacing the control valve and TCM.

I'm assuming you're having a service department doing this work? What did they say when you told them the problem is still present after changing the output speed sensor?
