My girlfriend has an old 2008 Ford Focus that rarely gets driven but desperately needs an oil change. What type of oil does it take so I can do it at home?
Answer provided by
Keeping up with regular maintenance is one of the best ways to extend the lifespan of your car. The 2008 Ford Focus’s oil type is SAE 5W-20 motor oil. While synthetic oil isn’t required for the Focus, it can help to improve engine performance and extend the time between oil changes.
On top of doing an oil change, here are some other general maintenance items you’ll want to keep an eye on and inspect at the appropriate intervals:
- Every 7,500 miles: Oil change, filter replacement, and an inspection of the exhaust system, brake system, suspension and ball joints, and cooling system. You’ll also want to have your tires rotated.
- Every 20,000 miles: The same inspections as 7,500 miles, but include replacement of the cabin air filter.
- Every 30,000 miles: The same inspections above include a multi-point inspection of your Ford Focus and replacement of your engine air filter.
The upkeep of a vehicle is essential, but it can be expensive. And while it can be tempting to skip an oil change or extend the intervals to save some money—don’t. If you want to save money on car expenses, shop for car insurance with Jerry, the #1-rated car insurance app and licensed broker.
If you’re ready to find savings, download the Jerry app and find the policy that fits within your budget. Once you tap your favorite, a Jerry agent will be pleased to get you switched over! Best of all, you could be on your way to saving over $800 a year on car insurance!
